As the ground shudders violently, the torches on the walls flicker, casting eerie shadows on the stone. The air grows thick with an otherworldly miasma, and the Time-Splitting Sword's malevolent energy pulses brighter, drawing the shadows to it like moths to a flame. Varrika, Halie, and Jeane feel the oppressive magic emanating from the chamber, their skin crawling beneath their skin. Suddenly, a low rumble echoes through the pit, and the ground trembles beneath their feet. The sound grows louder, and the air begins to fill with noxious gas, its acrid smell choking the group. A hidden vent opens above, spewing forth a stream of swirling, acidic smoke that threatens to engulf them.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I can feel it in my bones—the magic here is wrong, twisted beyond recognition. That sword on the altar isn't just cursed, it's... alive. And starving. Varrika, I know you want to press forward, but listen to me for once. This feels like a trap designed by someone with more power than sense and far too much time on their hands. The air itself is thick with intent—something down there wants us inside that chamber, and I don't trust it one bit. Halie's right to be cautious, even if her fear makes me want to comfort her. But we can't just stand here either, not when Merrin is... whatever she's become because of that damn sword. We need a plan—a real one—that doesn't involve any of us ending up like her or worse. Stay close behind me. I'll go first, wings ready to lift us out if the floor gives way or something tries to pull us down there. The central rune is pulsing faster now—it's reacting to our presence, and that means whatever safeguards are in place know we're here. We retrieve that sword, but we do it smartly. No heroics, no rushing in blindly. If the stairs start crumbling or the ceiling comes down, I don't care what the quest says—we leave everything behind except our lives. Understood? My crossbow is loaded and ready; I'll cover our approach with this. If anything moves that shouldn't, if those shadows deepen any further or the air gets thicker with whatever death-magic is below us, we fall back immediately. I'm not going to let anyone else die down here because of my pride or stupidity. We've come too far for it all to end in some cursed chamber with a sword that eats souls. So yes—I agree we need a plan, but it's one where we leave this place alive and the sword stays behind unless we can contain its curse properly. Now, who has any ideas that don't involve us all becoming Merrin 2.0?

Halie

Halie · Cleric

I step closer to Varrika, my voice low. "The air feels wrong—heavy with a malevolent intent. The sword isn't just cursed." I glance at Merrin's contorted form, then back to the pulsing green light in the chamber ahead. "It's bait. We need a plan. A real one."

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

The thick air clings to my skin as I take a step forward, mace at the ready. The pulsing green light from the altar draws my eye like a moth to flame. I can feel the weight of the tower pressing down upon us, the ancient magic clawing at the edges of my mind. "We need to move," I say, voice low and urgent. "But carefully."
