Round 60 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

Jeane's grip on the Time-Splitting Sword tightens, her vision blurring from the impact. The central rune pulses brighter, its sickly green light illuminating Merrin's twisted form, now mere inches from the pit's edge. Her body convulses, muscles bulging as she struggles to resist the curse's influence. As Jeane backs away, the runes on the walls begin to glow with an eerie blue light, casting flickering shadows across the chamber. The air thickens with malevolent energy, and the ground beneath their feet starts to shudder, the sound of creaking stone echoing through the passage.
I eye the pulsating rune warily, my battle-scarred hands tightening on my mace. This ancient magic feels wrong, unnatural. The air itself seems to thicken with malevolence. I can sense the curse spreading through Merrin, twisting her into something unrecognizable. "We're in dangerous territory now," I growl, my gravel-edged voice cutting through the oppressive atmosphere. "That rune's no mere decoration. Step outside its edges and who knows what foul magic it'll unleash upon us."
I move to stand between the central chamber and the rest of our group, my burly form planted firmly to block any hasty advances. "Halie, get that Protection spell cast on all of us, quick as you can. Merrin, Jeane - hold your positions. No more forward until we understand the lay of this cursed land."
My eyes dart to the narrow winding staircase, the only visible exit. It beckons with the promise of secrets and treasures, but I'm no fool. This tower will be the death of us if we let it. We must proceed with caution and purpose, or perish in its crumbling depths. I take a deep breath, the air stinging my lungs. "We stand together here," I declare, my voice steady despite the unease gnawing at my gut. "Let us be strong. Let us be smart. For we may yet survive this accursed place... but not if we let it claim us one by one."
Jeane's eyes widen as she feels the ancient power pulsing beneath her feet—central chamber runes glowing with sickly light now, each step forward more dangerous than the last. She telekinetically grips the Time-Splitting Sword on its pedestal before Merrin can get any closer to those cursed stairs descending into darkness. "Everyone," she commands, voice sharp enough to cut through even Halie's nervous muttering, "freeze where you are or I swear by all that is unholy we'll be trapped in here forever." Her crimson eyes flash dangerously as Merrin starts to protest. Jeane tightens her telekinetic grip on the sword until it creaks ominously—enough force to shatter stone if she lets loose completely. "This isn't about courage or honor anymore," she snarls, and even Varrika flinches at the malice in her tone. "That curse isn't just spreading through Merrin's veins now—the runes are active, and whatever's beneath us is hungry." The air itself feels wrong here, thick with ancient death magic that makes even Jeane's succubus skin crawl. She backs away slowly from the pedestal toward the wall—maintaining distance while keeping control of the weapon—and raises one hand in a gesture of warning. "Look at Merrin," she hisses, voice barely controlled rage and cold calculation. "The curse is already transforming her into something monstrous. That sword isn't worth all our lives." Her wings twitch restlessly behind her, dark leather catching what little light filters down from above. "And if any of you step outside this central rune now," she adds with terrifying certainty as the ground shudders again beneath them, "whatever happens to me happens to all of us. So Halie—get that Protection spell ready. Merrin, control yourself or I'll have Varrika knock you unconscious and carry you out." Her crimson eyes fix on each party member in turn, daring them to defy her. Because even a demon like Jeane has lines she won't cross—and watching her companions die for a cursed artifact crosses every single one.
Merrin staggers back from the pit's edge, her body contorting in pain as the curse spreads through her veins like wildfire. She gasps for air, feeling the ancient magic clawing at her insides, threatening to tear her apart from within.
"By the gods... it's too late," she wheezes, her voice strained with agony. "The curse... it's consuming me. You have to... have to find another way."
Her eyes dart wildly around the chamber, taking in the pulsing runes and the oppressive malevolence that hangs heavy in the air. She can feel the tower itself seeming to shudder and groan, as if the very stones are alive with dark energy.
"Halie!" Merrin cries out, desperation edging into her tone. "The Protection spell... try it on me! Quickly, before... before I'm lost to this foul magic!"
She stumbles, nearly falling into the pit, and Varrika lunges forward to grab her arm, hauling her back from the brink with a grunt of effort.
"Hold fast, Merrin," the dwarf growls, her grip like iron. "We're not losing you to whatever this is. Not if we can help it."
Merrin nods weakly, clinging to Varrika's strength as she feels the curse continuing its relentless march through her body. She knows that time is running out... but she also knows that she can't let this ancient evil claim another victim, not if there's any chance at all of stopping it.
"Jeane," she gasps, turning her head to look at the sorcerer. "The sword... it might be the key to breaking this curse. But we can't let it fall into the wrong hands. Promise me you'll... you'll keep it safe. No matter what happens to me."
