As the party hesitates at the bottom of the winding staircase, the ground beneath them gives a sudden, ominous creak. The air seems to vibrate with the sound, and the central rune's sickly green light pulses brighter still. The smell of decay and corruption wafts up from the darkness below, making Halie's holy symbol feel colder and more oppressive by the second. The runes on the walls around them begin to glow with a faint, malevolent energy – Destabilizing Runes, perhaps, designed to disrupt the party's balance and resolve. Merrin's mace feels heavier in her hand as she takes a deep breath, steeling herself for what lies ahead. The air seems to be drawing her down, the central rune's pull growing stronger by the moment.

As the ground creaks ominously beneath my boots, I tighten my grip on the heavy mace. The central rune's sickly green light pulses with an unsettling rhythm, casting eerie shadows on the crumbling stone walls. A faint whiff of decay lingers in the air, and I can feel an ancient, hungry presence pulling at something deep within me. Halie's warning about the coldness of her holy symbol only fuels my unease. The old dwarf in me wants to turn back, to leave this cursed place behind. But the warrior knows we have come too far to retreat now. Whatever lies ahead, we must face it together if any of us hope to survive. I step forward, my heavy footsteps echoing through the narrow passage. "Stay sharp, everyone. Keep your wits about you. Whatever's down here, it won't be friendly." I give Halie a reassuring nod. "Halie, keep that holy symbol ready. Merrin, watch for traps. Jeane, magic may be our only defense against whatever's coming."

As we press onwards into the darkness, I can't shake the feeling that we're being drawn into something far greater than any of us anticipated. The tower seems to breathe around us, ancient and malevolent. And yet, as a warrior sworn to protect her allies, I know my place is at the front of this formation. I raise my mace, the cold metal a familiar weight in my hands. "Onward," I mutter, steeling myself for the unknown horrors that await us in the depths of this accursed place. "The Time-Splitting Sword is close. And we'll need to be faster than time itself if we hope to claim it without losing our very souls."

With a deep breath and a prayer to the gods of my ancestors, I lead the way into the abyss, ready to face whatever trials await us in the name of duty and survival.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I grip my mace tighter, feeling its familiar weight anchor me against this rising tide of ancient fear. The central rune pulses beneath us like some grotesque heartbeat—brighter with each passing moment, brighter as we stand here debating whether to descend into obvious death. We don't have time for Halie's holy symbol to warm up or Merrin's traps to be cleared one by one while the tower collapses around our ears. We need that sword—the Time-Splitting Sword—and we need it now before this entire cursed edifice comes down on our heads. But more than that, I need to get us out of here alive. The air thickens with decay and something worse—something hungry. I can feel it pulling at me, ancient and patient, like teeth closing around flesh. My wings ache to unfurl, to lift me away from this place where the stones themselves weep corruption. But that would leave Merrin and Halie here alone, and I won't abandon them to whatever stalks below. So I step forward, boots scraping against stone, until I'm standing at the very edge of the central rune's pulsing light. It crawls across my skin like insect legs—cold and wrong—and I have to fight the instinct to recoil. "Enough," I say, voice rough with barely contained panic. "We're not leaving without that sword, but we're also not walking into a obvious deathtrap like a bunch of half-wits."

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

Merrin takes a deep breath, trying to steady her nerves as the central rune pulses ominously beneath her boots. The sickly green light washes over them like some malevolent beacon, and she can feel an ancient, hungry presence pulling her down into the darkness. "Alright, everyone," she says, her voice trembling slightly as she tries to project a false bravado. "Stay sharp and keep your eyes peeled for traps. Halie, keep that holy symbol ready—it might be our only defense against whatever's down here."

She steps forward, her mace feeling heavier in her hand as she descends the winding staircase. The air seems to thicken with each step, growing heavy with the scent of decay and something far worse—something that hungers. "Whatever we're about to face," Merrin mutters under her breath, "I have a feeling it's going to be a job for the ages."
