Round 55 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The air seems to thicken further as Halie's holy symbol remains cold and unresponsive, a stark contrast to its usual warm glow. The central rune beneath Merrin's boots pulses with an intensifying sickly green light, casting an eerie glow on the walls. The ground beneath their feet continues to shift, causing the party to stumble slightly. As they regain their balance, a faint, pungent smell wafts up from the staircase, reminiscent of decay and corruption. The sound of scurrying, unseen creatures echoes through the tunnel, their footsteps growing louder with each passing moment. The air is heavy with malevolent intent, making it difficult for anyone to focus. The party's leader, Jeane, takes a cautious step forward, her eyes fixed on the staircase. "I think we should proceed," she says, her voice laced with concern. "We can't stay here forever, and we need to know what's waiting for us down there."
I feel it too, this hunger in the stone—something ancient and terrible waking below us. Don't be reckless, Merrin. That central rune is pulsing brighter with every moment we stand here. We don't know what it does or what's waiting at the bottom of that stairwell. Halie's right—the holy symbol feels cold as death down there. And Varrika... keep your guard up. If whatever sleeps below has woken to our presence, then caution is our only shield against what might come crawling up those steps.
The rune pulses ominously beneath my boots, its sickly green light washing over us like some malevolent beacon. I can feel it pulling at something deep inside me, ancient and hungry. The air itself seems to thicken with each passing moment, heavy with the promise of danger. "Alright, listen up," I say quietly, casting a wary glance at the winding staircase before us. "I don't like this any more than you do, but we've come too far to turn back now. Halie, keep that holy symbol of yours at the ready. Varrika, stay sharp with that mace. And Jeane..." I meet her gaze, seeing my own apprehension reflected there. "Keep a tight rein on whatever magic that rune is trying to grab hold of."
I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what lies ahead. The scent of decay and corruption wafts up from the stairs, making my nose wrinkle in distaste. Whatever's waiting for us down there, it's not going to be pretty. "Let's move out," I say finally, tightening my grip on my mace. "And for the love of all that's holy, keep your eyes peeled for traps. This tower has more tricks up its sleeve than a drunken illusionist at a bar fight."
With that, I turn and start down the stairs, every muscle in my body tensed and ready for action. The rune continues to pulse beneath my feet, its light intensifying with each step. Whatever we're about to face, I have a feeling it's going to be a job for the ages.
I can feel it—the light inside me, being pulled downward. Something ancient and hungry down there. Merrin, wait. The symbol isn't just cold anymore—it's resisting my touch. Whatever lies at the bottom of those stairs... I don't think our kind should be going near it unblessed.
