Phase: converging

The chamber's air grew heavier as they stood before the central pit, the ancient magic within stirring awake. Seraphine felt it first—a cold chill that seemed to seep from the stone itself, wrapping around her senses like unseen fingers. The green light pulsed again, brighter this time, casting eerie shadows across the chamber walls. Each beat of light revealed more detail—the rough-hewn stone lining the pit's walls, the glint of something metallic far below.
Jeane stepped forward, her wings shifting uneasily behind her. "Stop," she commanded sharply, moving between Merrin and the edge. "We don't know what testing that rope does here." The air tasted wrong—like copper and decay—as the stone itself seemed to suffocate them. Whatever curse protected this chamber, it wasn't sleeping anymore.
Merrin squinted through the hazy air at Jeane, her brows furrowed in concern. "Gas is getting thicker," she muttered, reaching for a waterskin. She took a quick swig, hoping to clear her throat of the acrid taste. "Aye, something's stirring down there alright." Her hands twitched, eager to test that rope and find out what lurks in the pit's depths. But Jeane was right—she couldn't rush this. One wrong move could spell disaster for them...
The central rune pulsed again, bathing the chamber in sickly green light. Something ancient and hungry stirred within the depths, responding to their presence. The air crackled with malevolent energy, thick and suffocating like trying to breathe while submerged. That sword down there wasn't just sharp; it was a focal point for something that wanted out.
Jeane's crimson eyes glinted in the pulsing light as she turned to Merrin. "I need you to scout ahead—check the floor, walls, everything. Look for hidden triggers or pressure plates." Her voice was tight with barely contained excitement and fear. "If we set off one of these death-traps, I doubt we'll get a second chance."
Merrin's stomach churned with unease as she met Jeane's gaze. They were so close to the prize—so close to finally laying hands on the Time-Splitting Sword. But each step felt like a slide into deeper danger, the ancient magic here hungry and eager. She turned to Halie, anxiety tightening her voice. "Halie, any word from your goddess about that gas? Think we can trust our lungs in there?"
