Round 38 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The tension in The secret chamber deep within the crumbling stone tower tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.
I peer down into the pit, the pulsing runes casting an eerie glow on Merrin's face as she circles the edge. The air down there feels heavy, oppressive, like it's pressing against my skin. I don't trust it. "Hold," I grunt, my hand tightening on my mace. "We move carefully, or not at all."
I circle the edge of the pit carefully, my dark wings half-spread for balance as I study the pulsing runes below. The central one has definitely brightened since we entered this chamber—it's not my imagination. These are active defense systems or trap triggers, and they're reacting to our presence. Merrin, your alarm system is smart, but if there's a physical trigger on that rune circle itself, it'll detect you the moment you step onto it. Halie, keep your holy symbol ready. If this curse has demonic components—and believe me, it does—the silver might disrupt whatever energy is bleeding through those sigils. I don't want to be down there if something decides to manifest. The air in here is already thick with malevolent intent. Varrika's right—this place feels wrong on a fundamental level. Merrin should go first, using her rogue skills to test for physical traps on the circle itself. If she sets off anything mechanical, at least it'll be contained down there rather than up here where we're all bunched together like easy prey. Then Halie follows with that holy symbol leading the way, while I remain up here as backup. If something nasty crawls out of that pit, I want to see it coming and have ranged options. And someone needs to keep an eye on that newly opened passageway. The occupants in there might be getting curious about all this noise we're making. We don't need two problems at once.
I edge closer to the pit's edge, peering down into the pulsing darkness. The air feels heavy, charged with an ominous energy that makes my skin prickle. I swallow hard, trying to ignore the knot of fear tightening in my gut. We've come this far, and the Time-Splitting Sword is within reach. But something about this place feels wrong - more than just ancient traps or malevolent magic. It's as if the very stones are whispering warnings we can't quite hear. I test the rope tied around my waist one last time, making sure the knots are secure. Then I turn to the others, forcing a grin I don't quite feel. "Alright, you lot. Keep your eyes peeled and your wits about you. I'm going in." I take a deep breath, steeling myself. This is what we trained for, what we risked everything for. And may the gods help us if we're wrong about any of it. With a last glance at my companions, I swing my legs over the edge and start to lower myself into the pit, senses straining for any hint of danger.
