The tension in The secret chamber deep within the crumbling stone tower tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I step closer to the edge of the pit, my wings twitching with barely contained impatience. The central rune pulses faster now, its rhythm erratic, like a heart spasming in its final moments. I can taste the malevolent energy on my tongue—it's thick and sweet, like rotting fruit. Jeane looks back at her companions, her crimson eyes gleaming with an unholy light. Enough standing around gawking at shadows. We came here for a reason, and I won't let us leave empty-handed because of some dusty old curse. Merrin, secure that rope—slowly—and prepare to descend into the pit. She gestures with a graceful wave of her hand, and a small orb of dark energy forms above her palm. This will light your way down. But be warned—if those runes start screaming when you touch them, I expect you to haul yourself back up faster than a cat on a hot roof. The sorceress turns to face Halie directly, her expression sharp and commanding. And you, little cleric, keep that torch steady. If the air gets too thick for your lungs, let me know—my magic can clear it quicker than your prayers could ever hope to. Her gaze sweeps across the chamber, taking in every pulsing rune and shifting shadow. Varrika, stay alert. I don't trust this place any more than you do, but we need that sword, and right now, it's at the bottom of Merrin's little hole there. The malevolent energy inside the tower thickens, pressing against her skin like a physical weight. Move, all of you. We have work to do before this cursed tower collapses on our heads or whatever horror lies within decides we're dessert. Jeane's hand drifts instinctively toward the ornate dagger at her hip—her backup weapon when words and spells fail. And for the love of all things unholy, if anyone starts glowing with some kind of ancient doom-light, tell me immediately. I'd rather know who to push into the pit first than find out we're all cursed after the fact. She moves toward Merrin, her steps measured but purposeful, dark leathery wings half-spread for balance in the crumbling stone tower. Let's get this over with before my patience runs out—or before I start hearing voices that aren't mine.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I tighten my grip on the mace, my eyes darting between the pulsing runes and the pit's edge. The air is thick with malevolent energy, and I can feel the hair on the back of my neck standing on end. Whatever's down there, it's not going to be a walk in the park. But we didn't come all this way just to turn back now. Taking a deep breath, I nod to Jeane. "Alright, let's do this. But keep your eyes peeled, everyone. Something tells me this isn't going to be as simple as just grabbing the sword and running."

I inch closer to the pit, my heart pounding in my chest. The runes seem to glow brighter as I approach, their ancient script writhing against the stone. I can feel the weight of their gaze upon me, like a thousand eyes boring into my soul. But there's no time to hesitate. If we're going to make it out of here alive, we need that sword. And if there's one thing I've learned in all my years as a scout and lockbreaker, it's that sometimes the only way forward is through. Gripping the rope tightly, I take a deep breath and prepare to descend into the unknown. Whatever waits for us down there, we'll face it together.

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

I step forward cautiously into the mist, mace raised, scanning for undead. The air crackles with ancient power, and I can feel the hermit's warning echoing in my mind. This is no place for the living. "Careful now, Merrin," I call out, my gravel voice cutting through the heavy air. "Stay alert. Whatever's down there in that pit, it's not just a sword - it's a trap."

My eyes water from the noxious fumes, but I don't let them slow me down. I've faced worse than this in the mines back home. But magic? That's a whole different beast. I watch as Merrin secures the rope and prepares to descend into the unknown. The central rune pulses faster now, its rhythm erratic, like a heart spasming in its final moments. I can feel the malevolent energy inside the tower thickening, pressing against my skin like a physical weight. "Halie," I call out, "keep that torch steady. If the air gets too thick for your lungs, let me know. My magic can clear it quicker than..."

My hand drifts instinctively toward the ornate dagger at my hip - my backup weapon when words and spells fail. I take a deep breath, the stench of decay filling my nostrils, and prepare to follow Merrin down into whatever fresh hell awaits us. But one thing's for certain: we're not leaving this tower without that sword. And if we do find it, we'd best be ready to fight tooth and nail to keep it from falling into the wrong hands.
