Round 1 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1
The chapel’s cracked stone walls lean inward, a faint dampness clinging to the timber beams that sag under the weight of years. Guttering candles flicker against the gloom, their weak light revealing a circle of travel packs, half‑rolled maps, and a single, weathered parchment stamped with the village priestess’s blessing. A cold draft snakes through the cracked windows, carrying the distant rumble of thunder from beyond the Whispering Woods. In this dim sanctuary Jeane, the sorcerer, sits with her staff propped against the table, eyes fixed on the map of the tower’s ground floor.
The party has gathered because a contract was signed: retrieve the Time‑Splitting Sword from the accursed tower before nightfall, or return empty‑handed and risk the village’s doom. Success means the sword, failure means the tower’s dark guardians claim the crew, and withdrawal would leave the villagers to face the spreading corruption alone. The goal is clear—cross the gate, defeat the undead and sorcerer, secure the blade, and exit before the storm closes in. Each member may now confirm or question this mission.
The map is a lie. I can taste it in this air—the tower breathes falsehoods like smoke. We need more than a parchment drawing; we need truthseers and blood oaths from Elric if he’s not already dust in those woods. My power has limits, even for one who commands the shadows.
I understand the stakes—the villagers’ fear is real and we’re bound by this contract. But I need to be clear: my oath is to heal and preserve life, not to become a pawn in some suicidal dash into certain death. The tower may have claimed many before us, but I won’t let it claim our entire party for nothing.
The tower? shudders I've heard whispers of that place from travelers. None good. But a job's a job, and we're all in this together...for now. glances at the others I'll play my part, but no heroics. We get in, grab the blade, and get out. No sense tempting fate in there. taps her lockpicks Let's hope these babies work on whatever locks they've got. And someone better have a plan for all them skeletons, because I'm no fighter.
I lean forward, my fingers tracing the faded lines on the map. The air in this room feels heavy, thick with the unspoken dread of what lies beyond those trees.
"I must admit, the thought of venturing into such a place fills me with a profound unease. Ancient magic is not to be trifled with, and the tales of this tower speak only of ruin and despair. However..." my gaze lifts, meeting each member's eyes in turn "The contract is clear: if we do not succeed, the entire village will be lost. That burden falls upon us all."
My hand drifts to my staff, its runes cool beneath my touch. "I am a scholar of forbidden histories, yes, but I am also a wizard sworn to protect the innocent. If this sword truly holds such power over the encroaching darkness, then its retrieval becomes not just a job, but a moral imperative."
A small, sad smile plays on my lips. "But let us be clear: I will not be some reckless charge into the unknown. We must have a strategy, and it should start with learning everything we can from Elric before we even set foot in that accursed place."
I scowl, my scarred hands gripping the table edge hard enough to whiten my knuckles.
