I approach the gate carefully, reaching out to trace the pulsating runes with my fingertips. The dark energy feels wrong—cold, hungry, ancient in a way that makes my skin crawl. We should have expected this. I turn to Merrin: "Wait. Let me examine these seals first." This is exactly why I'm here.
As Merrin the halfling scout, I approach the sealed tower entrance with trepidation. The crumbling stone seems to exude an aura of ancient malice, and the runes etched into the gate pulse with a dark energy that makes my skin crawl. I can hear the distant clatter of bones behind the door, the remnants of long-dead defenders now reanimated by some malevolent force. The thought of facing those skeletal warriors fills me with dread, but I know we must press on if we are to claim our prize. As I work the lock with my trusty set of picks, I cannot shake the feeling that we are being watched. The air is thick with tension, and I half-expect some hidden trap to spring at any moment. But even as fear gnaws at my gut, I feel a flicker of excitement. This is what I live for - the thrill of the unknown, the chance to test my skills against ancient magic and long-forgotten dangers. With a final twist of the picks, the lock gives way with a soft click. I push open the gate, the creaking of its hinges echoing through the darkened chamber beyond.
The air grows heavy with an ancient, oppressive energy as Merrin works the lock, pushing open the rune-covered gate. Elric's map is revealed, its parchment yellowed and worn from centuries of being passed down in secret.
I... I don't like this. My voice is a strained whisper, my gaze fixed on the pulsating black star symbols etched into the weathered stone. They seem to writhe and shift in the dim light filtering through the trees, drawing my eye with a terrifying allure. The dark magic emanating from them is palpable, a cold, hungry presence that makes the fine hairs on my arms stand on end.
The runes serve a purpose, not just decorative. This isn't some simple lock to pick. I take a cautious step closer, my heavy robes rustling softly against the damp earth. My fingers itch to trace their patterns, to decipher the secrets they hold. But I know better than to touch them directly. Dark energy like this is a two-edged blade—it can reveal truth, but at a price.
The thought of what lies waiting inside those dark walls sends a shiver down my spine. It's not just the promise of the Time-Splitting Sword we seek. It's the promise of knowledge, of power... and of a danger I cannot yet name.
