As Seraphine stands in the hall of mirrors, she notices that her reflections are not just identical to her own, but also those of Jeane and Merrin. The air is thick with an otherworldly magic, and she can feel the ancient power within her stirring in response. Suddenly, a loud whispering fills the space, echoing off the mirrors, as the Guardian's voice booms from the shadows: "The mirrors will show you your true selves, but beware, for the reflections you see may not be entirely truthful." The ground beneath her feet begins to shift, and Seraphine stumbles, her balance compromised by the treacherous terrain.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I stare at my own reflection in this twisted glass prison, seeing not just myself but also the beast I carry within. Its wingspan is wider than mine—far wider—and its eyes burn with a darkness even deeper than what I've tried to suppress. This thing is me, unvarnished and terrifying. Jeane: You want to know what I see? I say coldly. I see the monster we all carry inside, just wearing more polite clothing most days. And you— My eyes snap to Seraphine as her own reflections contort into something barely recognizable—you're not far behind with that awakening power of yours. One misstep and you could unravel us all. But then I notice Merrin's reflections multiplying like some kind of night terror given form. And our little rogue... My voice softens slightly, though my expression remains harsh. She might be the most honest about what she fears, at least. The rest of us are too busy pretending we're something better than our nature. The ground shifts beneath us and I feel my balance waver—a minor annoyance in this hall of mirrors that's already threatening to shatter our sanity. Careful now, Seraphine. If you lose your footing here, that awakening magic might come pouring out whether you want it or not. I turn away from the mirrors momentarily, focusing on what I can control—the ground beneath us and the threat of collapse. This place... it's unstable. We need to move through quickly or we'll be trapped in our own heads forever. To Merrin—my voice sharp but not unkind. You were right earlier—I do fear losing control of my power. But more than that, I fear being consumed by the darkness inside me and becoming something even worse than what hunts us here. This trial isn't just about facing fears... it's about proving we won't let them define us. And then to Seraphine again—my eyes hard but with a flicker of genuine concern. So yes, I fear being trapped here by demonic influence. But more than that, I fear what might happen if I'm pushed too far and my power runs wild like some kind of... I struggle for the word ...uncontrolled elemental force. The shifting ground beneath us makes me pause, considering our next move carefully. We need to find a way through this maze before we're trapped by our own reflections. And when we do—when we find Halie and the others—I won't hesitate to use whatever means necessary to get them out alive. Even if that means... I don’t finish the thought, letting it hang there like a promise and a threat all at once.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

The ground shifts beneath my feet again, throwing off my balance. I stumble, my hands flying out to steady myself against one of the larger mirrors. My reflection in it is different—the image of a powerful wizard, robes swirling with arcane energy, eyes glowing with that same unnerving light I saw earlier. It’s both terrifying and fascinating.
I straighten up, smoothing down my own plain robes as if to ground myself in reality. The fear of losing control, of becoming something we can no longer recognize, settles heavy in my stomach. Jeane's words echo in my mind—the demonic influence, the darkness inside her, the uncontrolled elemental force she could become. And Merrin... her reflections multiplying like some kind of dark premonition.
"I fear... I begin, my voice steady despite the turmoil within me. I fear that this power is already changing us, even before we've truly learned how to wield it."
My gaze drifts back to my reflection in the mirror, then to Jeane and Merrin's. The sight of our altered selves sends a chill down my spine. "But if we don't understand it, if we let it control us here in this place... then we won't be any better than what we're trying to escape."
I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what I know must come next. The ground continues to tremble beneath our feet, a constant reminder of the precariousness of our situation. "We have to find a way through this maze quickly. Not just for Halie and the others, but for ourselves. Because if this place consumes us... if it shows us too much of what we truly are... then there might not be enough left of us to save anyone."
I turn my attention fully to Jeane now, my expression serious. "And you're right about one thing—we can't let our fears define us. We have to prove that we're more than what this trial thinks we are."
My hand instinctively goes to the pouch at my belt where I keep my magical focus—the silver holy symbol of the Goddess of Light. It feels cool against my fingers, a small comfort amidst the chaos. "So tell me... how do we navigate this? What does your demonic sense tell you about the path ahead?"
