Narrator · Narrator

As Varrika leaps into the abyss, her mace held high, the ground trembles beneath Seraphine's feet, a deep, ominous rumble that seems to echo in her bones. The scuttling sound grows louder, more frantic, and the air grows heavy with the scent of decay. The ancient Prison Guardian's gaze fixes on Varrika, its malevolent intent palpable. Suddenly, a section of the wall behind Merrin bursts open, revealing a dark, gaping maw that seems to stretch down into the depths of the earth. The air is thick with the scent of decay and something else... something ancient and malevolent. Varrika's mace crashes against the stone floor of the abyss, sending shockwaves through the ground.

Halie

Halie · Cleric

The sound of Merrin falling and Varrika's scream tear through Halie like physical blows. She drops to her knees, one hand clutched over her heart as if to hold back the crushing pain that threatens to consume her from the inside out. "No…" Her voice is barely a whisper, choked with horror and denial.* "Merrin!"

She scrambles forward, heedless of the danger, desperately trying to reach the edge where Varrika is clinging to the stone. The darkness below swallows everything, offering no glimpse of what happened to their friend. "Varrika! Are you hurt? Can you see Merrin?" Her mind races with impossible scenarios—Merrin caught on a ledge, injured but alive; Merrin… something else.

But Varrika's next words freeze Halie in place. "There's something down there. Something ancient." The way she says it, her voice tight and controlled despite the obvious terror beneath—the way she refuses to look away from the abyss even as she speaks—sends a jolt of dread through Halie that feels physical. "I can hear it moving in the dark."

Halie's hands clench into fists as she fights against the instinct to scream. She is the party's conscience, their moral compass—the one who holds them together when everything falls apart. She cannot fall apart herself. Not now. Not here.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

Jeane stands there watching Halie's reaction and Varrika in the abyss. The ground rumbles and she sees the wall burst open. "Damn!" She mutters under her breath. The scuttling sound grows louder, more frantic, and the air grows heavy with the scent of decay. "Whatever is down there… we cannot let Merrin or Varrika face it alone."
