As Merrin plunges into the depths below, Varrika's eyes widen in alarm, her hand tightening around her staff. She calls out to Halie, "We have to move now! If they're down there, we need to find them and get them out of there before it's too late!" Halie's face sets in a determined expression as she readies her healing magic. The air is thick with the scent of decay, and the sound of scuttling grows louder, like something is crawling up the walls towards them. Suddenly, a faint rumbling noise echoes through the passage, causing the ground to shudder beneath their feet. Varrika's eyes lock onto Halie, her voice firm. "We need to move, now."

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

The ground trembles beneath my feet, a deep, ominous rumble that seems to echo in my bones. I watch as Merrin plunges into the darkness, her cry of surprise and fear swallowed by the unknown depths below. My heart hammers against my ribs, a frantic drumbeat of pure, unadulterated terror. This is what we came for, wasn't it? To face the darkest of horrors in pursuit of our goal. But now, faced with the reality of it, I feel a chilling dread creep up my spine.

Varrika's voice cuts through the air like a knife, sharp and commanding. "We have to move now!" She turns to Halie, her eyes wide with both fear and determination. And there, in that moment, I see what true courage looks like. It isn't the absence of fear, but the choice to act despite it. To charge forward into the unknown, not because we're brave, but because we have no other choice.

I feel a surge of my own magic course through me, a familiar warmth that chases away some of the cold that has settled in my core. My hands tremble slightly as I grip my staff, the runes etched into its surface seeming to pulse with a life of their own. We need to find Merrin and Varrika. Whatever is down there, whatever ancient evil they've stirred, we can't leave them to face it alone.

Halie's face sets in a grim expression of resolve as she readies her healing magic. The air around us thickens, heavy with the scent of decay and something else... something ancient and malevolent. A faint rumbling begins to vibrate through the stones beneath our feet, growing louder with each passing second. It’s like the earth itself is groaning in pain, or maybe in warning. I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what's to come. This is it. The moment of truth.
I turn to Halie, my voice steady despite the fear coiling in my stomach. "Be ready," I say, echoing Jeane's earlier words. "If they call for backup—or if something goes wrong—you and I might be the only ones who can save them."
My gaze flicks back to the dark maw that swallowed Merrin, then to Varrika who is already moving towards the hole, her mace gripped tightly in her hand. She looks back at us over her shoulder, a silent command passing between us. We wait, poised on the edge of an abyss, ready to follow them into the very heart of darkness itself.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

Jeane stands frozen at the edge of the precipice, her spectral form flickering in the oppressive darkness as she stares down into the abyss where Merrin vanished. The scuttling sound echoes up from below—a grotesque symphony of clicking claws and scraping chitin that makes her skin crawl.

She feels a surge of frustration—at Halie for losing the key, at Varrika for charging blindly into danger, at herself for not anticipating this turn of events. But beneath it all, there's a cold calculation running through her mind. Merrin is down there. Alone. With whatever ancient horror has woken in these depths.

Jeane grips her staff tighter, the runes glowing with a malevolent light that seems to push back against the encroaching darkness. She knows she should send Halie after them—with her divine magic, at least one of them might survive what awaits below. But something holds her back. A flicker of… curiosity? Excitement? No, not excitement. Anticipation.

This is a challenge. A test of her power against something truly ancient and terrible. And Jeane has never backed down from a challenge in her life. "Halie," she says, her voice cutting through the oppressive silence like a knife, "take my staff and go after them. If they're still alive down there… try to keep them that way."

Before Halie can protest—or even question Jeane's decision—she raises both hands and begins to chant in a language older than time itself. The air around her crackles with dark energy as she draws on reserves of power she normally keeps carefully locked away.

The shadows seem to peel back from the edges of her vision, revealing glimpses of… something. Something massive and wrong, moving through the darkness below. Jeane's lips curl into a predatory smile as she feels the ancient horror's gaze lock onto her position. Good. Let it come.
