Round 39 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The tension in The edge of the Whispering Woods, deep within the forest surrounding the accursed tower tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.
I feel my hand tighten around my holy symbol, but its usual comforting presence offers no solace against this ancient evil. The magic in the air tastes wrong—like something has crawled into the very fabric of reality and is now festering within. This isn't the clean corruption of demons or the mindless hunger of undead. This is older, deeper, more fundamental.
I need to focus. Merrin and Varrika are moving forward into that darkness, their bravado barely concealing their fear. Jeane is right—they'll be slaughtered if we just charge in blindly. But can I really stand here while they face whatever's down there alone?
Varrika's heart pounds in her chest as she watches Merrin and Varrika move forward into the darkness, their bravado barely concealing their fear. "Damn fools," she mutters under her breath, but there's no real anger in her voice—just a grim acceptance of the fact that they're all in this together now.
She turns to face Halie, her expression hardening. "Listen, priest," she says, her voice low and urgent. "I know you want to help them, but charging in there blind is suicide. We need to be smart about this."
Varrika's eyes flick to the dark maw, then back to Halie. "You've got healing magic, right? And protection spells?" She doesn't wait for an answer—she knows the answer already. "Good. That's what we need now. Keep them alive and keep whatever comes out of that hole at bay."
She steps closer to Halie, her voice dropping to a whisper. "But if things go south—and they probably will—you run. Don't try to be a hero. Don't try to save anyone." Her eyes lock onto Halie's, her gaze intense and unwavering. "Get out of there and find help. We can't afford to lose you too."
Varrika feels a hand on her arm as Seraphine moves up beside her. "I'll go with you," the wizard says, her voice trembling slightly but firm. "We'll try to sneak past whatever comes out of that hole."
Varrika nods, a grim smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. "Alright," she says, and with that, she leads the way into the darkness, her mace gripped tightly in her hand and her eyes scanning for any sign of movement.
As they move forward, the ground beneath their feet starts to slope downward, leading them deeper into the earth. The air around them thickens further, making it difficult to breathe. "Stay sharp," Varrika mutters under her breath, her eyes darting from side to side as she tries to keep watch for any sign of danger.
Suddenly, a faint glow emanates from the walls, illuminating ancient carvings that depict a great battle between powerful beings. The symbols seem to pulse with a malevolent energy, warning of the horrors that lie within the Tower's depths.
Jeane’s spectral form flickers in the magical storm, her crimson eyes narrowing as she takes in the scene unfolding before them. The air is thick with ancient power—an oppressive weight that presses against her skin like a physical force, making even her own considerable magical abilities feel insignificant and childish.
The dark maw yawns open behind Merrin, revealing a yawning abyss that seems to stretch down into the very depths of hell itself. The sound of scuttling echoes up from below—quickening with each passing second as something large, fast, and undoubtedly hostile approaches their position. This isn't just some skeleton or monster—the energy signature is wrong on a fundamental level. This is ancient. Wrong.
Jeane feels a surge of cold dread wash over her, but beneath it, a flicker of something darker—a twisted excitement at the prospect of facing such raw power head-on. She’s never been one to back down from a challenge, and this… this might be the ultimate test of her abilities.
