As Jeane speaks, the air around her begins to ripple with an otherworldly energy. The magic within the tower seems to be responding to her words, pulsating faster and brighter. Suddenly, the walls of the passageway erupt in a shower of sparks, and the ground shudders beneath their feet. The ancient lock that Merrin opened now lies in tatters, its remains scattered across the floor. The party stumbles, momentarily off balance from the shockwave. Halie's silver holy symbol glows with an intense light as she attempts to steady herself.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

The magic pulses around us now—alive, watchful—and I feel the tower itself responding to my words. This place remembers power, hungers for it. Fascinating... I murmur, more to myself than anyone else. The ward is not simply a barrier; it's sentient. It tasted my own arcane strength and reacted. My wings unfurl fully in the cramped space, instinctively seeking freedom from these ancient stone walls that press too close. We've stirred something old and powerful—perhaps even older than I suspected. I turn to face Merrin, impressed despite myself. Your lockpicking skills may have just saved our lives—or doomed us all. Either way, you earned your keep this round. As the magic intensifies, I can feel it clawing at my thoughts like physical fingers. We need to press forward now—whatever this thing is, it clearly doesn't want visitors idling in its corridors. My hand hovers near my spellbook, ready to draw power if needed. Seraphine, prepare your shield—I have a feeling we'll be needing it soon. I glance at Halie's glowing symbol and Varrika's watchful stance. Everyone stay close—we're stronger together than apart, especially against something that feeds on isolation. My crimson eyes scan the flickering shadows ahead as we move deeper into the darkness. Let's find out what's laughing at us from beyond this wall—and show it why demons don't make good hosts. As I step forward, leading the group, I feel the magic coiling around me like a familiar embrace. This power is ancient, yes—but it's also hungry. And right now, it seems to be welcoming me home.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I can feel the magic pressing against my skin now, an almost physical presence that seems to whisper secrets just out of reach. The air is thick with power, and the very stones of the tower seem to hum with ancient energy.
Jeane's right—this is no ordinary ward we've breached. It responds to our presence like a living thing, pulsing and twisting in time with our own heartbeats. I can see the excitement in her eyes, the hunger for knowledge that matches my own thirst for danger.
We're close now, so close I can almost taste it on my tongue. Whatever lies ahead, it's going to test everything we have—our skills, our wits, our very souls. But that's what we came for, isn't it? The chance to push ourselves to the limit, to face the unknown and emerge victorious.
I tighten my grip on my lockpicks, feeling their familiar weight in my hand. These tools have gotten me out of more than a few tight spots—but I have a feeling they'll be the least of what we need to survive this place.
As we press forward, deeper into the heart of the tower, I can feel the magic growing stronger with each step. It's like a heartbeat, pulsing in time with our own, drawing us ever closer to the source of its power.
I glance at Halie, see the fear and excitement mingling in her eyes. She's right to be wary—this magic is beyond anything we've faced before. But there's a part of me that welcomes it, that hungers for the challenge and the danger.
We're close now—so close I can almost feel the breath of whatever lies ahead on the back of my neck. And as we round the final corner, step into the chamber at the heart of the tower... everything changes.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

The magic that pulses through these ancient halls feels alive now, almost predatory in its intensity. I can feel it coiling around my arms, tracing the runes tattooed on my skin like a lover's caress before tightening its grip.
I raise my hands, palms out, and begin to weave a complex pattern in the air, my fingers tracing the shapes of a shield spell. The air crackles with energy as I draw upon the limited reserves of mana I have left, pushing what little power I can muster into the spell.
"We need protection," I say, my voice strained with effort as I complete the final gesture and a shimmering dome of light springs up around our small group. "This magic... it's not just old. It’s hungry."
My eyes dart around the chamber, trying to pinpoint the source of the dark presence that seems to fill every shadowy corner. The air is thick with dust and something else—an acrid scent like ozone before a storm.
I watch as Jeane steps forward, her wings unfurling to their full impressive span in the confined space. Even now, in this place of such terrible power, she exudes an aura of confidence that both inspires and terrifies me. "Jeane," I call out, my voice barely a whisper. "Be careful. Whatever this is... it seems to be feeding on your power specifically."
My gaze falls on Merrin, who stands ready by the door with her lockpicks at the ready. A small part of me wishes I had her practicality, her ability to find solutions in the physical world. But this is a battle of magic, not mechanics.
The magic in the room surges again, and I feel a jolt of energy run through my body, almost like a shock. It’s a warning, I think. A challenge. And I have no choice but to meet it.

Halie

Halie · Cleric

The ancient magic beats against her skin, cold and insistent. She holds up her silver holy symbol—nothing happens. The metal remains dull and lifeless in her palm. This is exactly why I warned you... She says it calmly, without heat, but the words carry the weight of someone who has seen what unchecked dark power can do to mortals. Halie steps forward, positioning herself between the group and whatever lies ahead. Her hand clenches around the grip of her heavy mace. We cannot simply leave—Jeane is correct about that. But neither can we rush blindly into a place where even my goddess's favor seems... distant.
