As Halie drops into a defensive crouch, her cross raised between her and the Keeper, the creature's form begins to solidify once more. Its eyes flash with an otherworldly energy, and it speaks in a voice that sends shivers down Jeane's spine. "Your faith is...amusing, Cleric," it hisses. "But it will not save you. You have entered this place uninvited, and now you must face the consequences."

The Keeper takes another step closer, its presence filling the air with an aura of dark magic. The runes on the entrance to the tower begin to glow with a faint, malevolent light.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I take an involuntary step back as the world around us flickers like a poorly cast illusion, my mind racing to make sense of this impossible distortion. This is no mere trickery; it’s something far more insidious—an attack on the very fabric of reality itself. The Keeper's form solidifies once more, its eyes locking onto mine with an unsettling intensity. It seems to feed off our confusion, growing stronger by the second. Halie's right, I realize, a cold dread settling in my stomach. None of this was real. Not the way it should have been.
I raise a hand, fingers tracing ancient runes in the air, feeling for any residual magical energy that might offer a clue. The runes on the door pulse with an eerie, malevolent light, confirming my worst fears. We've stumbled into a trap, one designed to exploit our own beliefs and fears against us. My gaze darts around the group—Merrin, her mace raised in a futile gesture of aggression; Varrika, her face set in grim determination; Halie, clutching her cross like a lifeline. We need to act now, before this thing gains any more power.
I turn my attention back to the Keeper, my voice steady despite the fear coiling in my gut. "You cannot hold us here with illusions and half-truths," I declare, my words laced with a confidence I do not entirely feel. "We are not pawns in your game."
I begin to weave a complex pattern of my own, drawing upon every ounce of arcane knowledge at my disposal. It's a desperate gamble—a spell designed to pierce the veil between reality and illusion—but it may be our only chance.*

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

My wings flare with sudden understanding. The words are familiar—but wrong. I remember no 'sacrifice demand.' This is... The runes on the tower door pulse in rhythm with my heartbeat, and suddenly the world feels less solid. Something's playing tricks. I look at Halie, her form wavering like a heat shimmer.

This isn't real—this reality hiccup has us questioning ourselves. I recall no such bargain being made. My hand moves to the hilt of my sword instinctively. Merrin, Varrika, Seraphine—I don't think this is what we agreed to.

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

I grip my mace tighter, the weight of the weapon solid and real in my hand as the world around us seems to waver. Halie's right—something's not right here. This whole situation feels off, like we're caught in some kind of trick or illusion. My eyes dart to the Keeper, its form solidifying once more as it takes another step towards us. I don't trust this thing, and I sure as hell don't believe any bargain we made. I glance at Merrin, ready to see her charging forward, but she seems frozen in indecision. Merrin, stand down. We need to think this through. I turn to Seraphine, who's muttering something under her breath, hands weaving complex patterns in the air. Seraphine, can you dispel this illusion? Or at least figure out what it is? My attention shifts to Jeane, her wings flaring with sudden understanding. Jeane, if you've got any idea what's going on here, now's the time to speak up. I step closer to Halie, my voice low and urgent. And Halie, whatever this thing wants from us—money, souls, our firstborn—we can't give it. We fight our way through this. I take a deep breath, feeling the weight of the mace in my hand, the solidity of the stone floor beneath my feet. I don't know what's real anymore, but I do know this: we came here for a reason, and we're not leaving without the Time-Splitting Sword. My eyes meet each of yours in turn. We fight smart, we fight together, and we don't let this thing divide us.
