Round 58 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The tension in The base of a crumbling stone tower, its entrance now slightly ajar with ancient runes shifted, deep within the haunted Whispering Woods tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.
I watch as Merrin steps back, her face a mix of relief and lingering fear. My mind is already racing, trying to piece together the fragmented information we have about this place, these tests. Jeane's right—the creature wasn't looking for blind sacrifice or surrender. It wants something more complex, more subtle.
I turn my attention back to the shifting form before us, my eyes narrowing as I study it intently. The air crackles with energy, both magical and something darker, more primal. This isn’t just a test of bravery or faith as we commonly understand it—it’s a challenge to our very natures, to what makes each of us who we are.
As Halie steps forward, her holy symbol held high, I feel a thrill of both fear and anticipation. Her words echo my own thoughts precisely: "We come before you not as supplicants, but as seekers of truth." It's a bold declaration in the face of such overwhelming power, but one that carries the ring of necessity.
My hand instinctively goes to the heavy tome strapped to my belt—the one holding the fragment of ancient lore we managed to salvage from our last encounter. Its pages hold hints, whispers of the kind of power at work here, the kind of being we might be dealing with. "This isn't about being good people," I murmur, more to myself than to anyone else. "It's about something older, darker."
I look around at my companions—Merrin, still trembling slightly; Varrika, her crossbow at the ready; Jeane, her arcane energy crackling dangerously around her; Halie, standing proud and defiant before the creature—and a fierce protectiveness surges through me. We've come so far together, faced impossible odds, lost friends along the way. And now, at the very threshold of our goal, we face something that seems to want to unravel everything we believe in.
Taking a deep breath, I step forward to join Halie, my own presence adding weight to her words. "We understand this place has rules beyond our common sense," I say, my voice clear and unwavering. "So we offer no challenge... yet. But we won't be tested like pawns in a game we don't understand."
My eyes lock onto the creature's shifting form, trying to see past the shadowy tendrils and ancient wards to the intelligence behind them. "You want faith?" I call out, my tone a mixture of challenge and genuine curiosity. "Then give us a chance to show you what true faith looks like when it’s tested by something more than mere darkness."
Jeane's crimson eyes flash in the gloom as she surveys the shifting creature before them. I don't like this—testing faith doesn't usually involve such... theatrical displays. Her wings shift restlessly behind her, the arcane energy crackling around her fingertips intensifying. Whatever this thing is, it's not playing by our rules. She turns to Seraphine, a flicker of respect in her gaze despite their earlier tensions. You're right—this isn't about being good people. It's about something else entirely. Her voice drops to a low growl. Something that feeds on doubt and division. Jeane's attention snaps back to the creature as it begins its unsettling transformation again. Listen to me, all of you: We don't have time for half-measures or vague proclamations. If this thing wants faith, fine—let's give it something to judge. She steps forward boldly, her voluptuous form silhouetted against the arcane glow of her magic. You want a test? Then test this: I stand here not as an individual seeking salvation, but as the leader of this party. Her wings spread wide, a challenge in her stance. We've faced worse than shadows and mind-games, and we've come out on top every time. Jeane's eyes narrow dangerously as she continues. But make no mistake—we won't be manipulated into sacrificing each other or compromising our true selves. Whatever this test is, it ends now with a proper confrontation.
I clutch my holy symbol tightly, its familiar weight grounding me as I process the unfolding situation. "We can't just stand here and let this... thing dictate our actions." My voice is steady but laced with urgency. "Jeane's right—we've come too far to be manipulated into sacrificing each other or compromising who we are. If it wants a test of faith, then fine. Let's show it what real conviction looks like."
I turn to face Merrin, my expression softening as I see the lingering fear in her eyes. "Merrin," I say gently, "you didn't do anything wrong back there. This isn't about heroism—it's about smarts and strategy. We need to think three steps ahead instead of just reacting."
Then, louder for everyone: "We've faced impossible odds before, and we've always found a way through that doesn't involve blind obedience or stupid bravery." My gaze shifts back to the shifting creature. "You want faith? Then give us a real challenge. Something worth testing—something we can actually grapple with instead of these mind games."
I take a deep breath, steeling myself before continuing. "Because right now, all I see is a coward hiding behind shadows and tests, too afraid to face us directly." My fingers tighten around the holy symbol. "But if you're so eager to judge our worth, then show yourself properly. Face us as equals—face us in the light where your tricks won't work."
