Phase: converging

Seraphine's staff crystal pulsed in sync with the wall runes, a terrible resonance that made her teeth ache. The creature advanced, its massive form now fully visible—an abomination of twisted flesh and bone, eyes like burning coals fixed on them. The air grew heavy with ancient magic, thick enough to choke on.
"Stay back," Seraphine hissed, her entire focus locked on the summoning spell formula dancing across her vision. "This thing... it's not bound by normal rules." She could feel the wrongness of it, a violation of natural order that made her skin crawl. The crystal in her staff vibrated harder, drawing power from the very stones of the tower.
Jeane moved to flank her, wings half-spread for protection. "What kind of magic is this?" she demanded, eyes scanning the pulsing runes. "Divine or arcane? We need to know what Halie's wards can—"
"Both," Seraphine cut in sharply. "And worse. This is... something else entirely." The creature took another step forward, and the runes flared brighter, their light casting grotesque shadows across the stone floor.
Halie stood her ground beside them, holy symbol clutched tight. "No sacrifices," she said firmly, voice barely shaking despite the palpable wrongness of the entity before them. "We find another way."
The creature's growl rumbled through the air, and something shifted in its stance—a predator preparing to strike. The runes on the wall began to spin, slower at first, then faster, a dizzying vortex of ancient power.
Seraphine gritted her teeth, sweat beading on her forehead as she fought to maintain control of the summoning spell. "It's not listening," she gasped. "The binding... it's too weak. We need more power!"
Jeane's eyes widened. "My magic—it's not responding right! Something's blocking it!" She raised her hands, concentrating hard, but nothing happened.
The spinning runes reached a fever pitch, and the creature let out a roar that shook the very foundations of the tower. The vortex of light tore free from the wall, stretching towards them like a living thing—a swirling vortex of pure, malevolent energy.
"Move!" Seraphine screamed, but it was too late. The vortex engulfed them all in a blinding flash of wrongness, and the world dissolved into chaos.
