The hulking creature advances, its massive form blocking out most of the dim light from behind. The crimson eyes lock onto Seraphine, who stands firm, her staff at the ready. Jeane's wings spread protectively around Merrin, while Varrika grips her crossbow tightly. The air is heavy with tension as the creature takes another step forward, its growl echoing off the stone walls. As it moves, the runes on the wall seem to pulse in time with the creature's advance, casting eerie shadows that dance and twist in the corners of the chamber. The cold air grows even colder, and the Force, Jeane, feels a surge of energy emanating from her staff, as if it's trying to defend against the creature's approach. The creature's hot breath wafts towards them, reeking of decay and corruption. Its presence seems to be drawing the very life force out of the air, leaving an unnatural vacuum that makes it difficult for the party to breathe deeply.

Halie

Halie · Cleric

The runes pulse with ominous energy, their light cold against my skin. The air grows heavy, thick with an ancient malevolence that makes it difficult to breathe. This is no ordinary beast—this place reeks of dark magic older than our city. My hand instinctively moves to the silver holy symbol at my neck, its cool metal a comforting anchor in this swirling chaos. We cannot face this creature alone. Circle up! Merrin behind me, Jeane and Seraphine forward. Varrika, use your crossbow to thin its charge if it comes. I begin to murmur a simple protection prayer, the words barely audible but steady, as I draw on my divine energies to create a barrier between us and the darkness.

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

Merrin's dagger flashes in the dim light as she steps forward, her eyes fixed on the corridor ahead. The runes on the wall seem to pulse faster, their glow intensifying as if in challenge. The air grows colder, heavy with magic that presses down on the party from all sides. Suddenly, a low growl echoes from beyond the darkness, and a pair of glowing eyes materialize in the shadows, watching the party with cold calculation.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

The runes pulse faster now, their light harsh and unforgiving. I step in front of Merrin instinctively, my wings spreading just a little for protection even though there's barely room in this corridor. The growl echoes off the stone walls again—closer this time—and I feel my skin prickle with magic. This isn't just a beast; it's something older, something that understands our trespass. The air grows colder still as Halie begins her prayer, and I can taste the ancient power gathering around us. We're out of our depth here—this is Seraphine's domain, not mine. But we don't have time for a proper strategy meeting with whatever's growling at us from the darkness. "Seraphine," I say quickly, my voice low but urgent, "can you identify what kind of magic this is? Is it arcane or divine?" If I know what we're up against, maybe I can prepare something useful instead of just standing here looking useless.
