Round 7 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Halie steps forward, her holy symbol clutched tightly in both hands, the air around her begins to distort and ripple, as if the very fabric of reality is being twisted by her presence. The whispering voices grow louder, more urgent, and the darkness seems to coalesce into a palpable entity that lunges at her from the shadows. Halie stumbles backward, her holy symbol wavering in her hands, but her grip on her mace tightens. "I won't back down!" she declares, her voice ringing out through the corridor. "We'll face whatever is here!"
The entity lunges again, and Halie's mace flashes in the dim light as she swings it at the darkness. The blade bites deep into something solid, but it barely makes a sound, as if the entity is made of the same dark, ethereal material as the shadows themselves. The group stands frozen, waiting for the outcome of Halie's attack. The whispering voices reach a fever pitch, and the air seems to vibrate with malevolent energy. Suddenly, the entity lunges once more, and Halie must decide whether to press the attack or retreat.
Halie's grip on her mace tightens as she faces down the shadowy entity. I won't let it touch you! She steps forward, her faith shining through her exhaustion. If this thing thinks we'll cower in fear, it doesn't know what faith is made of! She raises her holy symbol high. By the light of righteousness, I command you to show yourself as you truly are! The silver gleams with an unearthly light that seems to push back the encroaching darkness.
Her voice rings out clear and defiant. We seek only what's just—if you truly served this tower once, then stand aside or face the wrath of the goddess herself! She doesn't wait for a response. With a sudden burst of energy fueled by sheer stubborn will, Halie swings her mace in a wide arc that clears the corridor. Come on then! Let's see what you're made of!
I step forward, my crossbow aimed at the shadowy entity that Halie is battling. Hold steady, cleric! I've got your back! I call out, my voice steady despite the fear that's coursing through my veins.
My eyes narrow as I try to get a better look at the creature, but it seems to shift and change with every movement, like a reflection in a warped mirror. Keep it off balance! We need to find an opening! I glance around quickly, looking for any signs of other threats or weaknesses in our surroundings. The corridor is still ominously quiet, save for the sound of Halie's mace striking against the entity.
Keep pushing forward, Halie! We can't let this thing stop us now! I call out, my finger tensing on the trigger of my crossbow. If you see an opening, take it! My mind is racing as I try to think of a plan. This entity seems to be made of pure darkness, which means my crossbow bolts might not do much damage. But Halie's holy symbol seems to be having some effect—maybe if we can get the creature to reveal itself fully, we'll have a better chance of defeating it.
I take a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves. Just hold on, everyone! We'll figure this out together! I shout, my voice echoing off the ancient stone walls. Let's show this thing what dwarven courage looks like!
I watch in awe as Halie's holy symbol pushes back the darkness, creating a small sphere of light around her. The entity recoils, its form flickering like a dying candle flame. My own hands begin to glow with a soft blue light, drawing upon the ambient magical energy that permeates this accursed place.
The air crackles with power as I weave a spell, my fingers tracing intricate patterns in the air. It's a simple warding enchantment, meant to protect us from the worst of the tower's dark magic, but it requires absolute focus.
As Varrika calls out her support, I nod, my eyes never leaving the creature. Yes, Halie! Hold that line! I mutter under my breath, my concentration intense as I complete the final sigils of the warding spell. A shimmering dome of blue energy expands outward from me, enveloping our entire group in its protective embrace.
I feel a sudden, sharp pain lancing through my head as the entity lashes out with a burst of malevolent energy, testing the strength of my new ward. I stumble back slightly, but my spell holds. It's testing us! I call out, my voice tight with effort. Be ready for anything! My gaze darts around the corridor, searching for any sign of weakness in our formation or in the tower itself. Merrin, Varrika - watch our flanks! Jeane, be prepared to counter any magical attacks! The blue light of my ward pulses, flickering against the deepening shadows of the corridor.
I turn my attention back to Halie and the entity. Keep pushing it, Halie! If we can force it into a weaker form, I might be able to bind it! My hands begin to move again, this time weaving a complex series of runes in the air before me. It's a spell designed to strip away illusions and reveal true forms, but it's also one of the most taxing spells in my repertoire. As I work, I can feel the tower's dark power pressing in on us, an oppressive weight that seems to be growing with every passing second. We have to finish this quickly! I call out, my voice strained as I pour more and more of my magic into the rune. The longer we stay here, the stronger it gets! The entity shrieks, a sound of pure anguish and fury, and lunges at Halie once again. This time, it seems to be made entirely of shadow, a writhing mass of black tendrils that writhe like snakes in the air.*
