Halie's ritual ends abruptly, and the sound of many skeletons moving in unison beyond the gate grows louder. The air is heavy with the weight of their presence. With a resolute tone, Halie says, "I was afraid of this. These aren't just mindless undead we're dealing with. They're responding, adapting." Seraphine nods in agreement, her eyes darting around the group before focusing on Jeane. "Jeane, you were right about one thing—they're not just going to stand there and let us waltz in. We need a new plan," Seraphine advises. Merrin fidgets with anticipation, eager for the fight ahead. Halie grips her mace tightly, ready to defend her party. Varrika readies her mace as well, her face set in a determined expression. "You heard her, Varrika—get moving!" she urges. With a swift nod, Varrika sets off alongside Merrin, who is already sprinting toward the gate. The sound of clacking bones grows louder still, the skeletons closing in on the party's position.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I circle the gate with Merrin, my eyes scanning for any sign of weakness or alternative entry points. Right then—let's find a way in that doesn't involve playing tag with those dusty bastards out front. My clawed fingers trace over the ancient runes, feeling for any magical signature beyond the usual death aura.

The current state: we're stuck between a rock and a hard place—literally. The Whispering Woods behind us are probably still crawling with nasties, and now this cursed tower wants to add its own undead menu to our dining options. Typical.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

The sounds of Merrin and Jeane's frantic search echo around the tower's base, mingling with the constant, unsettling clack of bones on stone from the other side of the gate. I stand with Halie and Varrika, my heart pounding in my chest as I try to focus on the problem at hand.
"I have an idea," I say, my voice barely audible over the din. "It's risky, but it might just work."
I turn to face Varrika and Halie directly, my expression serious and determined. "We need to get inside that tower, yes, but not through the front door. What if... what if we used magic to phase part of the wall? Just enough for one person to slip through, maybe Merrin or Jeane when they get back."
Halie's eyes widen at the suggestion, a mixture of shock and cautious interest in her expression. "Phase a wall? That sounds dangerous. And we have no idea what kind of wards or traps might be waiting on the other side."
I nod, understanding her concern. "You're right, it is dangerous. But we're out of options here. Those skeletons aren't going to wait for us to knock politely."
My gaze sweeps over the ancient runes covering the gate, their complex patterns seeming to pulse with a malevolent energy. "The runes—they're complex, much more so than I first thought. They’re not just about keeping things out; they’re about keeping something in particular at bay. Or trapping it inside."
I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what I'm about to propose. "Varrika, if we do this, you'll need to be ready to move fast once the wall is breached. You're our best fighter, and we can't afford to lose you on the first step inside."
I turn to Halie, my voice softening slightly. "Halie, I know your ritual didn’t work as planned, but if we do manage to get inside, we’re going to need all the holy power you can muster. Can you prepare something? A blessing, a protection spell, anything?"
The sounds from Merrin and Jeane grow louder as they circle back around the tower's base. "They're almost here. Whatever we decide, we have to act now."

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

Merrin skids to a halt beside Jeane, her breath coming in ragged gasps. Nothing on this side but more of those clacking bastards. She wipes sweat from her brow, her eyes darting around nervously. That ritual was supposed to keep them at bay, not rile 'em up for a party. She turns to Seraphine, a mix of urgency and unease in her voice. If you're gonna do some magic wall-juggling, best make it snappy. Don't want to be stuck out here when those things decide to come knocking on the back door too. Merrin's hand instinctively goes to her dagger, her fingers tracing the edge of the blade. And I don't like the sound of what might be trapped in there. Sounds like someone or something we don't want to wake up. She glances at Halie, a flicker of sympathy in her eyes. Sorry your holy mojo didn't do the trick this time, but we're gonna need all hands on deck once we get through that door. Even if it's just for moral support. Merrin takes a deep breath, steeling herself for whatever comes next. Alright then, magic ladies and pointy stick people—let's see what this tower's got hiding in its rotten walls. Just try not to blow us up in the process, yeah? She gives Seraphine a wry grin, even as her eyes remain fixed on the ominous gate.

Merrin's heart pounds in her ears as she readies herself for whatever spell Seraphine is about to unleash. She's never been one for magic, preferring the solidity of steel and the quickness of her feet. But right now, with death lurking on both sides of this crumbling stone, she'll take any advantage she can get.
