Round 247 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The air seems to thicken as Merrin and Jeane move away from Seraphine, who remains transfixed by the massive orb. The chamber's collapse continues to rumble around them, sending dust and debris cascading down the passageway. Suddenly, a loud groan echoes through the space, followed by the sound of scraping metal on stone. The walls begin to shudder, and the ground trembles beneath their feet. Merrin's eyes widen as she realizes the structural collapse is accelerating; the chamber's instability grows more dire by the second. Jeane grabs her arm, her voice laced with desperation. "We need to find a way out, now!"
Jeane staggers through the collapsing passageway, her vision still blurring from the backlash of failed binding magic. The chamber groans around us like a dying beast—we're running out of time! She presses her palms against the crumbling walls, feeling the stone vibrating with impending collapse.
Merrin's silhouette is barely visible through the dust, her voice strained as she calls out. Jeane! There's an opening ahead—some kind of hidden passage! The sorceress forces herself to move faster despite the pounding in her skull. Good eyes! But it won't matter if we're crushed first! She ducks under a falling chunk of masonry, feeling the wind rush past where her head was moments before.
As she reaches Merrin at the opening—a crack in the wall barely wide enough for them to squeeze through—the chamber shudders violently. We have maybe ten seconds before this whole place comes down! Go now! Merrin hesitates, glancing back toward Seraphine's distant form still standing mesmerized before the orb. Jeane grabs her arm with iron strength. No time for heroics or second thoughts—she's not there right now, and we can't save her if we're dead too! The rogue nods grimly and turns to slip through the narrow gap, Jeane close behind her. As they tumble into a new corridor beyond, the sound of massive impact echoes behind them—the Archive Chamber collapsing completely.*
I grit my teeth and force myself through the narrow gap just as the chamber collapses behind us in a roar of dust and falling stone. Heart pounding, I scramble to my feet in the new passage, crossbow at the ready. "Jeane, you alright?" I call over my shoulder.
She emerges a moment later, coughing from the debris. "Barely," she sputters, "but we're both still breathing. For now." I nod grimly, knowing she's right - the tower is crumbling around us and that spirit is still out there, toying with Seraphine's mind.
I peer down the dark corridor ahead, trying to make out any signs of movement or danger. "Looks like this passage keeps going," I murmur, "but who knows where it leads. Could be a dead end or some new trap for all we know." I glance back at Jeane, seeing the pain and exhaustion etched on her face. "You sure you're up for this? We can rest a minute if you need to catch your breath."
She shakes her head vehemently. "No time," she pants, "this whole place could come down any second. We keep moving until we find a way out or somewhere safe to hole up." I know she's right but the thought of leaving Seraphine behind twists my gut like a knife.
Still, I nod and motion for Jeane to follow me. "Alright then, let's see where this takes us. And keep your eyes peeled - we're probably not the only ones still kicking in this hellhole." With that, I set off into the darkness, my senses straining for any hint of danger or escape. Whatever lies ahead, I'll face it with steel in my hand and fire in my heart - it's all we have left now.
