Seraphine's eyes flash with determination as she takes another step closer to the massive orb, its power surging through her like a tidal wave. The air around her begins to distort, reality warping slightly under the influence of the spirit's magic. Merrin and Jeane exchange a horrified glance, their faces pale with fear. Suddenly, the ground beneath them gives way, and the chamber lurches violently, sending Seraphine tumbling forward. She lands hard on the stone floor, her body glowing with an eerie light as she struggles to regain her footing. The orb's energy pulses brighter, as if sensing her distress, and Merrin feels an overwhelming urge to rush to her aid. As she hesitates, Jeane's voice cuts through the din of the chamber, her words laced with desperation. "Merrin, don't! We have to get out of here now!" The walls seem to be closing in on them, and the air is thick with dust and the stench of decay.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I try to stand but stumble again from the head rush—the binding circle failure left me weaker than I thought. Seraphine— Her eyes are glowing now with that orb's light. That's not her anymore. We can't trust anything it says through her mouth. This is exactly what happened to Halie and Varrika when we got separated—some kind of mind control spirit.*

Merrin, if you go to her, whatever's possessing her will just add you to its collection too. She’s already lost to us, probably forever. The walls are creaking worse now—I swear I can see cracks spreading across the stone. We need to get out before this whole place collapses and buries us all alive!

I feel my heart wrench at the sight of Seraphine, her eyes glowing with that eerie light. But Jeane's words ring true - we can't risk falling into whatever trap this spirit has laid for us. "Jeane's right," I say grimly, "we can't let ourselves get caught up in whatever mind games it's playing."

The chamber shakes again, and I feel a surge of urgency as the walls close in around us. Jeane staggers to her feet, her face pale with pain. "Merrin, we need to move," she urges, "now!"

I nod, my grip tightening on my mace. "Alright, let's find a way out of here before this whole place comes crashing down around our ears." I glance back at Seraphine one last time, my heart heavy with the knowledge that we're leaving her behind. "We'll come back for you," I whisper, "I promise."

With Jeane stumbling alongside me, I set off into the depths of the chamber, my rogue's instincts on high alert. Whatever lies ahead, we'll face it together - with wits, courage, and whatever tricks I can pull from my sleeve. It's all we have left now.
