Round 242 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Seraphine places her palm against the crystal surface of the orb, the chamber erupts into chaos. The binding circle Jeane had maintained suddenly collapses, and a blinding flash of light illuminates the room. When the light fades, the Archive Keeper has vanished, and the walls of the chamber are now covered in strange, pulsating symbols that seem to be shifting and rearranging themselves. Merrin instinctively draws her dagger, ready for anything, as Jeane stumbles back, clutching at her head in pain. The pulsing orb, now glowing with an intense blue light, continues to emit a gentle hum, its energy still coursing through Seraphine's body.
I gasp in agony as my binding circle shatters, the magical backlash sending me stumbling backward. Pain explodes through my skull—I can feel something tearing inside, like my own magic is being ripped apart from within. What did you DO? The chamber spins around me, and I have to brace against a wall just to stay upright.
Through blurred vision, I see the walls shifting, covered in those maddening symbols that pulse with their own dark energy. This isn't unlocking—this is breaking every ward I've ever learned. Seraphine's touch on the orb has unleashed something ancient and terrible, and it's consuming us alive. I try to focus through the pain, to reach out with my senses and understand what we're dealing with now. The binding circle was supposed to contain this—supposed to give me control over whatever power resided in that box. But Seraphine ignored my warnings and touched it anyway. And now I can feel the magic leaking out, wild and untamed, tearing through every shield and protection I've cast since we entered this hellish tower. The orb pulses again, its light growing stronger with each heartbeat. Jeane grits her teeth against the agony of it—every beat seems to send another wave of raw power slamming into my mind. This isn't what I agreed to. This is a violation. A rape of my magical defenses.
I force myself back onto my feet, swaying unsteadily. Merrin's there by the door, dagger drawn and ready—she looks as alert as ever despite everything that just happened. "Seraphine," I manage through clenched teeth, "GET AWAY FROM THE ORB."
I feel the power of the orb surging through me like a tidal wave, my entire body trembling under its intensity. Jeane's warning cuts through the haze of magic, but it’s too late—the energy has already found its mark, and now it’s seeking to merge with me. The symbols on the walls pulse in time with my heartbeat, their movements almost hypnotic as they rearrange themselves into intricate patterns I've never seen before. "I can't stop touching it," I gasp, my fingers still pressed firmly against the crystal surface. "It's like... like it knows me. Like it's been waiting for this."
Merrin's blade flashes in the dim light as she moves to stand between us and whatever new threat this magic might pose. "Seraphine," she calls out, her voice steady despite everything, "get back! That thing is dangerous!"
I try to take a step away from the orb, but my legs feel rooted to the floor. The energy is coiling around them, binding me in place. "No, wait," I say, my voice strained as I strain against the invisible bonds. "This isn't like the others. This one... it's different."
The orb pulses again, brighter than before, and suddenly a flood of knowledge pours into my mind. Not just any knowledge, but the secret history of this place—the true nature of the trials, the purpose of the labyrinth, the identity of the spirit we've been chasing. It's all there, laid bare for me in an instant. I let out a sharp cry as the information overload threatens to overwhelm me, my hands coming up to clutch at my head. "It's showing me... everything," I manage to gasp out between ragged breaths, "The truth of this place. The real reason we were brought here."
Jeane stumbles forward, her face a mask of pain and fury. "Seraphine, you fool! You've just unleashed God knows what upon us all!" She raises a hand, magic crackling at her fingertips, but it's clear she can barely stand, let alone cast a spell. The orb seems to have broken her circle completely.
I feel a surge of protectiveness, of purpose. This knowledge, this power—they are mine now, and they will help us escape this realm. "No," I say firmly, my voice gaining strength as I push back against the magical bonds holding me in place, "this is what we needed. This is our way out."
The symbols on the wall shift again, forming a path leading away from the chamber. "Look," I point with a shaking hand, "it's showing us the way."
Merrin lowers her dagger slightly, her expression shifting from suspicion to cautious curiosity. "A path? But... where does it lead?"
"I don't know," I admit, my gaze fixed on the glowing symbols, "but we can't go back. The only choice left is forward." I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what's to come. "This power... it wants me to follow it. To guide you all."
With great effort, I wrench my hand away from the orb's surface, the energy still crackling around my fingertips. "The cost was high," I say, turning to face Jeane and Merrin, "but we're still alive. And now... now we have a chance."
The chamber trembles, dust falling from the ceiling as the structure groans around us. "We have to move," I say urgently, my voice cutting through the sound of crumbling stone, "before this whole place comes down on our heads."
I take a step towards the glowing path, my body moving almost of its own accord.* "Come on. Trust me."
