Round 221 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As I finish my spell, a surge of earth energy erupts from beneath the platform, causing it to shudder and sway precariously. The stabilizing magic from Seraphine holds, but it's clear that her efforts are straining the structure. The winds howl in response, threatening to overwhelm us with their fury. The Focus Stone pulses with an intense, golden light, drawing the elements towards it. I glance at Jeane, my eyes locked on her hands as she weaves the elemental binding spell. "The earth element is responding well," I say, my voice barely audible over the tempest. "But we need to move quickly. If we don't channel the other elements soon, the whole platform could collapse." The air crackles with electricity, sparks dancing around us like fireflies on a summer night. The gaunt figure in tattered robes watches us from the shadows, her eyes gleaming with an otherworldly light. "Time is short," she intones, her voice echoing through the chamber. "Begin your trial."
Jeane nods at Seraphine's assessment of their situation. "We're running out of time," she says, her voice barely audible over the howling winds around them. "The platform won't hold forever, and those elements aren't going to wait patiently."
Her crimson eyes fix on the swirling vortexes—each one pulsing with raw power that seems to call out to something primal within her. The air crackles with electricity, sparks dancing dangerously close to the edges of their makeshift binding circle. "We need to channel them in order," she continues, her hands already moving into the starting formation of a standard elemental binding spell. "Earth first, since Seraphine seems to have that under control. Then wind, fire, and water."
As she speaks, the runes on the stone pulse in response, as if sensing their intentions. The gaunt figure in tattered robes watches them from the shadows, her eyes gleaming with an otherworldly light. "Remember," Jeane adds, her voice dropping to a near-whisper, "if one of us starts to lose control—pull back immediately. We can't afford to let this energy feedback destroy our circle."
Her fingers complete the first part of the binding sigil, the magic crackling between her fingertips. The wind element responds instantly, a powerful gust threatening to tear through their defenses. "Ready?" she asks Seraphine, holding her gaze for just a moment before turning her attention fully to the vortex swirling before them.
Jeane takes a deep breath, feeling the cold air fill her lungs. Her wings beat slowly, providing balance on the trembling platform as she prepares to face the first element. "Let's begin with earth," she says, her voice steady despite the fear that grips her insides. "On my signal—three, two..."
I take a sharp breath as Jeane begins the countdown, my hands still tracing the stabilizing spell in the air before me. The earth beneath our feet trembles violently, and I can feel the strain of my own magic pushing back against the collapsing structure. "One," she says, her voice firm despite the howling winds around us. "Two—"
My gaze darts between the swirling vortexes of raw elemental power and the rune-carved stone at the center of our binding circle. The runes on its surface seem to pulse in time with my hammering heart, a silent countdown of their own. The gaunt figure in tattered robes watches us from the shadows, her eyes gleaming with an otherworldly light that feels both curious and ominous.
"Three!" Jeane's voice cuts through the chaos, and she thrusts her hands forward, fingers splayed wide as if pushing against an invisible wall. A massive surge of earth energy erupts from beneath the platform, causing it to shudder and sway precariously. The stabilizing magic I cast holds, but it’s clear that my efforts are barely enough to keep the entire construct from collapsing entirely.
The Focus Stone at the center of our binding circle flares with an intense, golden light, drawing the elemental energy towards itself like a magnet. I watch in awe and terror as the earth vortex begins to spin faster, its solid form disintegrating into a swirling mass of dirt, rocks, and glowing dust. It's beautiful and terrifying all at once.
My own magic is straining now, every muscle in my arms feeling taut with effort. I can feel the strain of holding the platform together, but I know that if we fail here, it will be our last mistake. "It's working," I call out over the roaring of the earth element. "But I don't know how long I can maintain this level of pressure!"
I glance at Jeane, my eyes wide with both fear and a strange kind of exhilaration. The raw power of the elements is unlike anything we've ever faced before, and the knowledge that we are even attempting this is both terrifying and thrilling. "What do we do next?" I ask, my voice strained. "The earth is pulling too much energy out of the stone. We need to balance it with something else before the whole thing comes apart."
The air around us crackles with electricity, sparks dancing dangerously close to the edges of our circle. The wind element whips around us with increasing force, sending sparks of lightning arcing across the sky. It's a terrifying display of raw nature, and I find myself both terrified and strangely mesmerized by its power.
I can feel the pressure building within the stone, a low thrumming vibration that seems to resonate deep in my bones. Whatever magic holds this trial together is ancient and powerful, and I get the feeling that we’re only just beginning to understand what we’ve gotten ourselves into. "Jeane," I call out again, my voice rising above the din of the storm. "If this continues, we won't just fail the trial—we'll be crushed by it. We need to move quickly to the next element."
