As the gaunt figure finishes speaking, the holographic screen behind her flickers to life, displaying a portal leading to the Labyrinth of Reflections. The air in the chamber seems to vibrate with anticipation, and the pulsating organ on the altar surges in response. The broken glass on the floor shatters again, reforming into two intact mirrors that reflect the corridor beyond. The gaunt figure nods, her expression unreadable. "You may proceed. Choose a trial to face first."

Jeane's hand instinctively moves towards her crossbow, her eyes narrowing. "What kind of challenges can we expect?" she asks, her voice firm but wary. Seraphine takes a deep breath, trying to calm the frantic beating of her heart. "I think we should start with the Trial of the Elements," she says, pointing at the screen. "It seems to play to our strengths, and if it gets too dangerous, we can always try another trial next."

The gaunt figure's eyes gleam with interest, but she remains silent, waiting for their decision. The air in the chamber grows heavier, the pressure mounting as the tower's collapse looms closer.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I eye Seraphine's extended hand for a long moment before grasping it—her fingers are cold, but not as chilled as my own. "Fine," I mutter, my gaze still fixed on the gaunt figure in tattered robes who watches us with that unnerving stillness. "But if this is some kind of trick or if we end up trapped in a worse hell than what's already collapsing around us, I'm holding you personally responsible for dragging me into this mess."

My crimson eyes dart between the holographic screen showing the portal to the Labyrinth of Reflections and Seraphine's hopeful—if slightly terrified—expression. The thought of facing more mirrors after barely escaping our last encounter with a reflection makes my stomach churn, but she’s right: we don’t have many options left. "Let’s get this over with," I say with a grim determination that masks the fear clawing at my insides. My wings twitch with anticipation—or maybe anxiety—and I draw myself up to my full height, trying to project an aura of confidence even as I feel anything but certain about our chances.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I feel a jolt of energy run through me as Jeane grasps my hand, her grip firm and cold. Her words are sharp, but I can hear the underlying fear in her voice—it matches the terror that’s been gripping my own heart since we entered this cursed place. "You're right," I say, my voice so low it's almost lost in the groaning of the tower around us. "If this is a trap, we'll face it together. That's what matters now."
My gaze sweeps over the options on the holographic screen again—the Labyrinth of Reflections, the Trial of the Elements, and the Chamber of Whispers. Each one seems more daunting than the last, but the Trial of the Elements feels like our best bet. It’s a test we can at least try to prepare for. "The Trial of the Elements," I confirm, turning back to face the gaunt figure in tattered robes. "We choose that one."
The air crackles with ancient power as I speak, and the pulsating organ on the altar surges in response. The gaunt figure nods, her expression unreadable. "Then begin," she intones, her voice echoing through the chamber like a death knell. A portal opens behind her, shimmering with an eerie blue light—the entrance to our next nightmare.
I take a deep breath, steeling myself for whatever lies ahead. The Trial of the Elements sounds straightforward enough, but in a place like this, there's no such thing as a simple test. "Remember," I whisper to Jeane, my voice so faint it’s almost lost in the groaning of the tower, "stay close. And if anything feels wrong... we run. No matter what."
With that, I take a step towards the portal, my heart hammering against my ribs. The blue light seems to beckon me forward, promising both power and peril. As I cross the threshold, the world around us shifts, blurring into a kaleidoscope of colors and sensations before solidifying into a new reality.
A wide, open sky spreads above us, a stark contrast to the cramped confines of the archive chamber. We stand on a platform of black stone, suspended high in the air, surrounded by swirling vortexes of elemental energy—fire, water, earth, and air whipping around us like a living storm. In the center of the platform lies a single rune-carved stone, pulsing with an inner fire.
"Welcome to the Trial of the Elements," a disembodied voice booms, echoing from all directions at once. "Your challenge is simple: channel the energy of each element into the Focus Stone without losing control. But be warned—the elements here are wild and untamed."
I look around, taking in the terrifying beauty of our new surroundings. The air crackles with electricity, the earth trembles beneath my feet, and the scent of ozone and smoldering ash fills my nostrils. "Jeane," I call out over the roar of the winds, "we need to figure out how to do this fast. I don't know how long this place will hold before we get swept away by the storm."
My eyes fall upon the rune-carved stone in the center of the platform—a potential anchor against the chaos swirling around us. But how can a single stone possibly control such raw elemental power? The answer seems to lie somewhere between the ancient runes etched into its surface and the wild energy whipping through the air.
I turn to Jeane, my expression serious despite the fear clawing at my insides. "What do you think? Can we work together to channel these energies? It's going to take all our power—and fast."
