The Consort's form blurs as it expands, its many eyes burning with an unholy hunger. Jeane's voice rises above the cacophony, her syllables echoing off the stone walls as she chants the ancient words of the prophecy. The air crackles with energy, and the pulsating organ on the altar surges in response, casting an eerie glow across the chamber. The book in Seraphine's hand begins to glow with a soft, ethereal light, its pages fluttering wildly as if trying to escape Jeane's grasp. The room seems to grow hotter, the air thickening with an otherworldly presence that makes it hard to breathe. Suddenly, the Consort's form begins to distort, its body rippling like water as it takes on a second, identical form – a mirror image of itself, but twisted and malformed. The duplicate Consort lunges forward, its own eyes fixed on Jeane and Seraphine with an unspeakable hunger.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I stare at the pulsating organ atop the altar, my demonic instincts screaming a warning even as my sorcerous mind recognizes the power emanating from it. This isn't just some heart—it's the literal core of this entire cursed labyrinth, and whatever price Seraphine thinks we might pay for activating it... I know she's wrong. You don't mess with something like this without understanding exactly what you're dealing with. My eyes dart to the duplicate Consort lunging towards us, its many eyes burning with an unholy hunger. The twin monstrosities seem to move as one now, their shared gaze locked onto Seraphine and me. A primal fear rises in me, something that has nothing to do with my usual arrogance and everything to do with facing something that pre-dates even my long existence.

"Wait," I snap, yanking back on our joined hands to halt her forward momentum. "Did you see that? Did you see what just—The thing split!" I gesture wildly towards the two monstrous arachnids now blocking our escape route. "That's not good! That's really, really not good!"

My mind races, trying to process what we've just unleashed. The Consort was bad enough on its own—two of them? Now we're truly fucked. "Your precious book didn't mention anything about creating a goddamn monster menagerie!" I snarl, my wings spreading instinctively as if ready to take flight despite knowing there's nowhere left to run.*

I glance around the chamber desperately, looking for any alternative escape route or weapon that might help us survive this nightmare scenario. The walls seem to be closing in slightly now, the ancient stone groaning under some unseen pressure. "We need a new plan, and fast! Before these things decide we make excellent appetizers!"

My sharp demonic features twist into a scowl as I turn back to Seraphine. "And you—what the hell did that chant actually do? Because I'm pretty sure it was supposed to activate the heart, not summon us a pair of overgrown spiders with a god complex!"

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I feel a jolt run through me as our hands clasp together, the book pressing against my palm like a brand of shared destiny. Jeane's words hang heavy in the air—her begrudging acceptance a fragile shield against the impending doom that awaits us.
My heart pounds against my ribs as I take a step towards the altar, pulling Jeane with me. The book feels heavier than ever before, its pages seeming to hum with an ancient power that resonates deep within my bones. This is it—the moment of truth, the point of no return. We are about to offer ourselves up to something far older and more terrifying than any foe we've faced before.
