Round 203 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The binding circle's symbols shift wildly, pulsing with an otherworldly energy. The clock face mechanism hums to a stop, its numbers settling into a new pattern. Seraphine's eyes lock onto the mechanism, her gaze intense. "We need to spin the hands clockwise," she says, her voice steady despite the tension in her body. Jeane hesitates, her hand hovering over the clock face. The creature behind them takes another step forward, its legs unfolding like a spider's. The ground shudders beneath their feet as another section of the tower collapses, sending dust and debris swirling around them. The Consort's eyes fix on Seraphine, its gaze burning with an unnatural hunger. The air is thick with anticipation as Jeane takes a deep breath and makes a decision. "I'll do it," she says, her voice firm. "But if this doesn't work, we need to be ready to run."
I stare at the clock face mechanism as its numbers spin wildly before settling into a new pattern. Seraphine thinks she sees something—I hope to whatever dark gods might be listening that she’s right. My eyes dart between her and the creature looming behind us—its multiple eyes still fixed on us with unnerving intensity. If this works, we might survive long enough to find Merrin… or at least escape this cursed tower before it collapses completely around our ears. I take a hesitant step toward the clock face mechanism despite every alarm bell screaming at me that this is dangerous territory. Alright, wizard—show us what that brilliant mind of yours can do when it really matters. My voice carries more confidence than I actually feel, but right now we need to project strength even if it's all an act. Talk me through this pattern you see. Every second counts—literally. As Seraphine begins speaking, I listen intently while simultaneously scanning the mechanism for any subtle changes that might offer a clue—because if she can't figure it out immediately, we'll have to improvise something desperate before this whole chamber collapses around our ears.
I focus intently on the clock face mechanism, my eyes tracing the intricate patterns of numbers and symbols spinning wildly before settling into a new configuration. "The key isn't just the numbers," I say, my voice low and urgent as I lean closer to Jeane, gesturing at the device. "See how they're arranged? It's a spiral pattern, like a nautilus shell or a fractal. We need to rotate the hands in that same spiral motion, starting with the hour hand and moving clockwise."
I point to the hour hand first, then the minute hand, finally indicating the second hand. "Start with the hour, then the minute, then the second. But don't stop there—keep going in that pattern, each time a little faster than the last. It's a test of rhythm and precision, not just strength or magic."
My gaze flickers towards the creature behind us, its multiple eyes still fixed on me with unnerving intensity. A shiver runs down my spine, but I push it aside—we have no choice now. "The binding circle will hold... probably. But if it doesn't, we need to be ready to run. Or fight. Whatever comes through that barrier won't be friendly."
I take a step back, giving Jeane space to work. "Do it," I say, my voice firm despite the fear coiling in my gut. "But remember—stop on the next full hour. If we overshoot, who knows what might happen."
