The clock face mechanism hums to a stop, its numbers settling into a new pattern. Seraphine's eyes dart between the mechanism and the flickering runes across Jeane's skin, her expression a mix of determination and fear. The air is thick with tension as Jeane takes another step forward, her hand hovering over the clock face. The creature behind them hasn't moved, its multiple eyes fixed on Seraphine with an unnerving intensity. Suddenly, the binding circle flickers ominously between them and the arachnid monster, its symbols shifting to match the clock face's new pattern. A low growl rumbles from the creature, and it takes a step forward, its legs unfolding like a spider's. The ground shudders beneath their feet as another section of the tower collapses, sending dust and debris swirling around them.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I step closer to Seraphine despite every instinct screaming at me this is a mistake—because right now we need her mind more than we need my caution. This pattern you see better be worth the risk of touching this cursed mechanism, I warn, my hand hovering inches above the spinning clock hands. The runes across my arms pulse with magical energy as I prepare to defend us if this goes wrong… which it probably will given our luck lately.*

I glance back at the creature—its multiple eyes still fixed on us with unnerving intensity despite the binding circle supposedly keeping it contained for now. We don't have time for trial and error, I say, turning back to Seraphine. If you're wrong about this, we'll need more than magic to survive whatever comes through that barrier. The ground shudders ominously beneath our feet as if agreeing with me.*

My wings twitch with the urge to take flight—instinctual response to danger—but there's no where to go in this collapsing chamber except toward certain death or through an unknown magical trap we're about to trigger. Alright, wizard, I say, forcing my voice into something resembling confidence even as fear coils cold in my gut.* Talk me through this. Which hand goes where first? And how many tries do you think we get before the whole thing activates that monstrosity behind us?

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard
