Round 200 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Jeane examines the clock face, her fingers hover over the first dial. The creature behind them hasn't moved, its multiple eyes fixed on Seraphine with an unnerving intensity. The air is heavy with tension, the only sound the creaking of the collapsing tower and the distant whisper of the voice from earlier: "You should not have come here." Seraphine's eyes dart between the clock face and the creature, her grip on her mace tightening. Suddenly, the ground gives a violent lurch, sending them both stumbling. The clock face shudders in response, its numbers spinning wildly as the mechanism whirs to life.
I examine the clock face mechanism as it whirs back to life, its numbers spinning wildly before settling into a new pattern. The creature behind us hasn't moved yet, but I can feel its eyes boring into my back like physical pressure. Every second counts—this tower is coming down faster than we can think our way out of this situation. The binding circle flickers again across the floorboards between us and the arachnid monster. My wings ache with exhaustion from maintaining flight-readiness for so long in this collapsing space. The runes etched into my skin pulse weakly, barely holding back the magical rot that infects everything here. I turn to Seraphine, her face illuminated by the pulsing blue light of the clock mechanism she just activated. "Focus on those symbols," I say, trying to keep my voice steady despite the terror gnawing at me inside. "What pattern do you see? Quickly—the tower won't wait for us to figure this out." The ground shifts ominously beneath our feet as if emphasizing my point. My hand hovers over one of the clock hands, ready to spin it but hesitant—this could be a trap or trigger something worse. I glance back at Seraphine, noting how she's trembling despite trying to hide it behind her mace. We're both running on fumes here. "Tell me what you see," I urge her again. "Every second counts—literally." The ceiling above us groans as another section collapses somewhere nearby, sending a fresh cascade of dust and debris raining down around us. My wings instinctively half-spread in defense before settling back against my back with an effort. I take a step closer to the clock face mechanism despite every alarm bell screaming at me that this is dangerous territory—because we're out of options and standing still means death by crushing stonework or whatever this creature decides to do once it gets bored watching us fail. The runes across my arms flare up as I draw on what little magical energy remains, ready to cast something desperate if needed. The clock face seems to pulse in time with the flickering binding circle behind us—both mechanisms teetering between functioning and failure. We need a breakthrough now or we're done for. "Come on," I mutter under my breath. "You're smarter than this, Seraphine. What's the pattern?"
As I wait for her answer, I keep scanning the mechanism for any subtle changes that might offer a clue—because if she can't figure it out immediately, we'll have to improvise something desperate before this whole chamber collapses around our ears.
I stare at the clock face, my heart hammering against my ribs as I try to make sense of the glowing numbers. The creature looms behind us, its multiple eyes glinting with malice under the pulsing blue light. Jeane is right—the pattern isn't random. There has to be a key to this puzzle if we’re going to survive.
I take a shaky breath, trying to steady my nerves. It's... it's like a code, I say, my voice nearly lost in the groaning of the collapsing tower. The numbers repeat in a sequence, but there are symbols mixed in too. Three cogs, one wrench, two stars… I point to each element as I count them out, my mind racing to find the connection.* Maybe we need to spin the clock hands to match the pattern somehow?
