The chamber shuddered around them, a groaning of ancient stone under intolerable strain. Dust billowed in choking clouds, each impact making the very air vibrate with the force of collapsing tons above. Jeane's spell had bought them seconds—barely enough time to stagger back before the creature recovered and lunged forward again, its many eyes already clearing from the blinding burst.

"Fuck!" The sorceress' voice cut through the rumble, her crimson eyes wide with panic as she took in the scene. "This isn't working! We need past it—through it or around it before this place comes down!" Her wings beat reflexively, instinct driving her to flee even as her mind raced for solutions. The binding circle was failing, its edges already fraying as her concentration shattered under the dual assault of physical exhaustion and psychic horror.

Seraphine caught herself against Jeane's back, both hands gripping the taller woman's shoulders for balance in the heaving room. She could feel the other elf's muscles tense beneath her fingers—Jeane was terrified too, despite the bravado. The thought brought a flicker of something almost like satisfaction, quickly swallowed by the more pressing need to not die in this collapsing nightmare.

"Past it?" she snapped, pushing away from Jeane and turning to face the looming arachnid monster that now blocked their only visible exit. "How? It fills the entire archway!" The creature's body was a writhing mass of chitin and shadow, its many legs splayed wide across the stone floor in a clear territorial display. Each of its countless eyes seemed to track their movement independently, glinting with predatory intelligence.

The ground heaved again, more violently this time—enough to make them both stumble. A section of the ceiling far above gave way with a sound like thunder, sending a cascade of stone and debris tumbling down towards the opposite side of the chamber. The clock face on the wall behind the creature shuddered, its remaining gears grinding in protest before freezing entirely. The magical energy that had animated them seemed to be failing across the entire room.

"Fine," Jeane snarled, already raising her hands for another spell despite the obvious strain it would cause. "If we can't go past it—" A particularly loud crack from above cut her off mid-sentence. Both women looked up to see a massive section of the ceiling beginning to peel away like rotted wood, revealing glimpses of the crumbling structure beyond.

"We need to move!" Seraphine shouted over the rising cacophony of collapsing stone. "Now! Before that comes down on us too!" She was already scanning the room for alternative exits, her mind racing through possibilities despite the overwhelming sensory input—the creature blocking the main passage, the crumbling ceiling above, the unstable floor beneath them.

Jeane nodded sharply, abandoning her spell preparation and grabbing Seraphine's arm instead. "You're right—fuck this," she growled, pulling the other elf towards a narrow gap between two massive stone blocks that seemed to have shifted during their struggle. "We'll find another way out—this whole place is collapsing anyway!"

The ground heaved again as they ran, the clock face behind them exploding in a shower of sparks and shattered crystal. The creature let out an unholy shriek but made no move to follow them—their flight seemed to please it somehow, its many eyes gleaming with malicious satisfaction as it watched them disappear into the darkness beyond the crumbling archway.

The stone around them continued to groan and shift as they fled deeper into the labyrinth, the sound of collapsing chambers echoing through the ancient halls like the death rattle of a dying god.
