Round 89 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Jeane finishes her spell, the ward illuminates the hidden chamber door, revealing a faint trail of magical energy emanating from within. Halie's warning comes too late, however, as a dark, swirling mass erupts from the doorway, hurtling toward them with malevolent intent. The Bound Spirit's coal-black eyes glow with an otherworldly light as she lunges at the party, her tattered robes billowing behind her. The air is filled with the acrid scent of decay and corruption as the dark energy crashes into the platform, sending the group stumbling backward. The structural collapse threat now seems imminent, as the unstable floor creaks ominously beneath their feet. Seraphine's ward spell holds, but Jeane's defensive stance is put to the test as the Bound Spirit's attack intensifies, forcing the party to decide how to respond to this new development.
I immediately raise my hands in a complex gesture of arcane restraint, channeling the energy from my ward spell into a binding circle aimed at containing this ancient threat before it collapses the entire platform with us on it. "Hold fast!" I command, my voice cutting through the magical backlash as the circle begins to form around the Bound Spirit's dark energy. The sigils in the air crackle and flare with barely-contained power—too much force might trigger a cascade that destroys us all, but too little will let this thing loose again. "Seraphine, cover Halie—if that door gives way completely we'll be trapped between threats! Halie, focus your senses on Merrin's trail below, we need to know if she's alive and where!" The circle stabilizes around the Bound Spirit, its coal-black eyes burning with malevolent intent as it struggles against my binding magic. I feel every ounce of willpower being tested—this spirit is ancient beyond measure, its power unlike anything I've faced before. "Whatever you do," I grit out through clenched teeth, "stay on the stable sections of this platform! One wrong step and we're all falling to whatever awaits below!"
I stare at the writhing dark energy contained within Jeane's binding circle, my skin crawling at its malevolent presence. "We cannot hold this... thing... for long!" The platform groans ominously beneath our feet as I shift my weight, trying to maintain balance on the shifting stone. "I'll need to try and reason with it—spiritual bonds can sometimes be broken through negotiation rather than brute force." But even as the words leave my mouth, I doubt their truth. This entity is ancient beyond comprehension, its power far exceeding anything I've encountered before. "Or at least distract it long enough for Jeane to maintain her circle." I take a hesitant step forward, then stop—every instinct screaming that this spirit means us harm. "But first... Merrin. We need to know if she's alive down there. I can try and sense her presence..." My eyes close as I focus my spiritual awareness downward, straining to feel any sign of the friend we left behind. The effort makes me dizzy, the dark magic swirling around us fighting against my concentration. "Wait..." I open my eyes slowly. "I think... yes. I sense something alive down there. But distant." My gaze shifts between Jeane's struggle with the binding circle and the unstable doorway. "We need to move fast—either get that thing contained properly or find a way to free Merrin before this entire level collapses!"
