Round 88 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Seraphine stands guard at the edge of the platform, her eyes scanning for any signs of movement from above, Jeane finishes her spell and the air is filled with a soft hum of magical energy. The ward she placed on their path ahead begins to glow softly, illuminating the faint outlines of additional chambers and tunnels that weren't visible before. The map she conjured earlier shows at least three potential routes down, each leading to a different set of possible dangers. The ward's detection also reveals a faint trail of magical energy emanating from one of the routes, suggesting that Merrin may have taken that path. However, as they prepare to descend, Halie suddenly gasps, her eyes fixed on the hidden chamber door behind Seraphine. "I sense something moving in there," she whispers urgently, her hand tightening around the hilt of her mace.
I was about to suggest we follow that magical energy trail Jeane detected—it's our best lead on Merrin—but now Halie's sensed movement from behind us? Jeane turns sharply, her wings unfurling in a swift motion as she faces the hidden chamber door. If something's moving in there while I'm channeling this delicate ward spell, we're sitting ducks. The magical energy might draw whatever it is out... or worse, cause my spell to backfire and collapse the entire platform. She raises both hands, arcane symbols glowing on her palms as she prepares for combat. Seraphine, cover Halie—she's closest to that door! Jeane's crimson eyes scan the doorway intently, her voice dropping to a dangerous growl. Whatever you sensed in there, Halie... was it human? Undead? Something else? The air around them grows colder as Jeane maintains her defensive stance, ready to unleash a spell at a moment's notice. We can't afford more surprises right now. If Merrin's down there and alive, she needs us—fast. But if we walk into an ambush while I'm mid-spell, we're all dead before we even reach the ground level. Jeane's clawed fingers flex as she readies a spell, her wings beating slowly to generate extra air pressure for explosive power. Halie, can you tell what kind of presence that is? Is it hostile? Moving toward us? Her voice carries both strategic calculation and barely-checked impatience—she wants to help Merrin but refuses to throw away their lives on a suicide charge. We need to know if we're dealing with more skeletons, some new tower guardian, or... whatever that bound spirit actually is. Because if it's the latter, we might need a very different approach than just hacking through undead. Jeane's crimson eyes gleam in the dim light of the unstable platform. Talk to me—what are we facing behind that door right now?
I freeze at the chamber door, every instinct screaming warning. "It's... not human. Not dead, either—not like the skeletons. Something ancient and powerful." My grip tightens on the mace handle as I strain to hear more. "But it's not moving toward us. Yet." I glance back at Jeane, seeing her defensive posture. "You need to finish that ward—we can't afford distractions right now. But if whatever's in there joins forces with whatever's below... we're trapped between threats."
