As the ground beneath them continues to groan in protest, Halie drops down beside Jeane on the chasm floor, her heavy mace at the ready. "We need to move, now!" she shouts above the din of collapsing stone and clattering skeletons. The skeletal figures press their attack, their rusted spears and swords aiming for Halie's exposed flank. Jeane swiftly casts a spell to create a localized magical shield around Halie, protecting her from the skeletal onslaught. However, the shield only holds for a few moments before it dissipates under the relentless pressure of the undead horde. The skeletons press closer, their bony fingers closing in on Halie's exposed neck. Seraphine frantically searches for an alternative solution, her eyes darting between the shifting platforms above and the hidden chamber door behind them. She spots a series of ancient, dusty symbols etched into the wall, pulsing with a faint magical energy. "I think I can reactivate the tower's stabilizers if we can just reach the control panel!" she calls out to her party, her voice laced with desperation.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

Jeane's wings beat furiously to maintain altitude as she watches Seraphine nearly fall into the abyss. Careful! The entire floor is unstable—one wrong step could send you plummeting. She gestures sharply with her wand, a gust of wind catching Halie and pulling her back just as skeletal fingers brush her neck. We need to end this quickly before the whole damn tower comes down around our ears! Jeane raises her wand, arcane energy crackling along its length. Seraphine, aim for structural integrity—collapse the skeletons with a well-placed blast! Halie, use that mace of yours to keep them at bay while we work. She locks eyes with each party member in turn, ensuring they understand their roles. And when I give the signal, we all move as one—the moment Seraphine stabilizes this floor, I'll trigger a ward to hold the door shut long enough for us to regroup and plan our next move. Jeane focuses her power, preparing spells to support her companions while also keeping an eye on the shifting chamber around them. This is going to be messy... but if we work together, we can turn this disaster into opportunity. Let's show that spirit who's really worthy!

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I take a deep breath, trying to calm the frantic pounding of my heart as I watch Jeane and Halie fight off the skeletal horde below. The ancient runes on the wall pulse with a faint, magical energy, and I can feel the tower's instability through the soles of my boots. We're running out of time. My fingers trace the intricate patterns of the symbols, searching for the right sequence to reactivate the stabilizers. "I'm almost there!" I call out over the din of battle, my voice strained with effort.
Suddenly, a massive groan echoes through the chamber, louder than the clash of steel and bone. A section of the stone floor near one of the platforms begins to crumble, collapsing inward with a deafening roar. "Watch out!" I scream, pointing at the falling debris. The platform wobbles precariously, threatening to dump its occupant into the abyss.
As I work frantically on the runic controls, a sudden blast of energy surges through my hands, making me gasp and jump back. "Got it!" I shout triumphantly, as the runes flare to life with a brilliant blue light. The tower seems to shudder, its ancient magic groaning as the stabilizers engage. Slowly, the collapsing sections begin to hold steady, and the swaying platforms level out. "The floor's stabilizing! But we need to move—quickly!"
I turn my attention to the hidden chamber door, where the dark energy swirls more violently now that the tower is no longer collapsing around it. "Jeane, can you seal that vortex before it spreads?" I call down, my voice filled with both urgency and a touch of awe at the raw power emanating from the opening. "Whatever's inside that chamber... we need to keep it contained until we figure out how to deal with it properly."
My gaze darts between the now-quiet skeletons on the chasm floor and the swirling portal in the wall. The immediate threat of structural collapse has passed, but a new danger looms, more insidious and mysterious than before. "Halie, help Jeane watch our backs. I'll see if I can find any more clues about this binding ritual before we attempt to free Merrin." I pull out my scroll case, searching for the right notes on ancient soul-binding magics, hoping they hold some key to unlocking the spirit's prison without unleashing untold horrors upon us all.
