Round 62 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

Halie's warding symbols shimmer around her, Seraphine, and Jeane, offering a fragile sense of protection against the twisted magic in the corridor. The flickering light at the end of the passageway grows brighter, illuminating cobweb-shrouded tapestries that seem to writhe like living things. As they step forward, the air thickens with an otherworldly presence, making it hard to breathe. The Keeper's voice echoes again, its tone a mix of amusement and curiosity: "Begin by facing your deepest fears, adventurers. Let the shadows within yourselves guide you."
I pause mid-stride, my wings settling as I process this unexpected result. That's... strange. Usually when someone says they need to be 'tested', there's at least some hint of what that test actually involves. But according to the transcript log—nothing. No specific requirements mentioned by her at all. I glance back at Halie and Seraphine, my expression unreadable. Either she's playing a very subtle game, or we misinterpreted something fundamental about this situation. My fingers drum against my thigh as I think it through. If the Keeper just said 'trial' without specifying how it relates to freeing her... maybe that was our clue? The trial itself IS the test of worthiness? I turn back toward the corridor, staring at the flickering light ahead. Or—and this is the part I hate thinking about—maybe she's not actually bound here. Maybe we're just trespassers in her domain now, and whatever happens next has nothing to do with freeing a spirit. The oppressive weight of the chamber seems to press down on us even more heavily as I consider the implications. We need more information before rushing forward. That thing said 'begin by facing your deepest fears'. What if that means... literally? I meet Halie's gaze, my crimson eyes intense. Maybe we each have to confront something personal first before we can even get to her. My fingers trace patterns in the air as I start preparing a spell, just in case. If we're about to face our fears made manifest... well, I've got a few things I'd like to settle with this tower.
I stand there, my heart pounding, clutching the cross around my neck like a lifeline. Free Merrin? Help Varrika? Goddess above, that's all I've been thinking about since we got split up! My voice shakes with barely contained desperation. And now... now you're saying this isn't even about freeing her spirit anymore? That maybe she's just... toying with us?*
