As Jeane steps into the doorway, the raspy voice responds, "Welcome, adventurers... we've been waiting." The air seems to thicken further, and the symbol on the ground begins to glow brighter, pulsing with an otherworldly energy. Suddenly, the floor beneath her feet gives way, and she tumbles down a hidden shaft, landing with a soft thud on a pile of dusty old books. The sound of her fall echoes through the room, causing Halie to cry out in alarm. "Jeane!" Merrin rushes to the edge of the catwalk, peering into the darkness below. "We have to get her out of there!" The catwalk creaks ominously, and for a moment, it seems like it might collapse entirely. As the party hesitates, the whispering in the chamber grows louder, and the symbol on the ground begins to flash with an intense, blinding light. It's clear that whatever is happening, it's not going to wait for them. The question is, what will they do first?

Halie

Halie · Cleric

I stand frozen for a moment, my mind racing as I try to process what just happened. Jeane! Her name escapes me in a choked cry of alarm. The thought of her down there—alone and possibly injured—sends a jolt of fear through me.

My eyes dart around the group, searching for any sign that someone else might have an idea on how to handle this crisis. We can't just leave her down there, I say, my voice shaking slightly. Varrika? Merrin? Do you see any way we can reach her without collapsing the whole damn floor? Without waiting for a response, I start digging through my pack, pulling out the length of rope we brought with us. My fingers tremble as I test its strength. We have to get down there—someone has to help her. I glance up at Merrin and Varrika, my expression urgent. One of you needs to hold this end while another lowers me down. We can't afford to lose Jeane—not when we're already in enemy territory. My gaze shifts to the ominous doorway as the whispers grow louder. And we need to hurry—whatever's in that room might have already... I trail off, my stomach twisting with dread. The pulsing light from below seems almost... hungry. Goddess preserve us all.

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

Varrika's gaze snaps wide at the sound of Jeane's fall, her body tensing as if to leap into action. Merrin, get that rope secured! she barks, her voice cutting through the chaos. Halie, keep your wits about you. We can't afford to lose anyone else to this damnable tower and its tricks. The dwarf warrior's eyes scan the crumbling catwalk, her mind racing to assess the structural integrity of their precarious perch.

She moves to Merrin's side, her powerful frame providing a solid anchor as the rogue works to secure the rope. I'll hold this end, Varrika grunts, bracing her feet against the stonework. You get down there and bring our sorceress back. And for the love of all that's holy—keep your guard up! We don't know what other surprises this place has in store for us. Her grip tightens on the rope, her knuckles white with the strain.

As Merrin begins to lower herself into the darkness below, Varrika's gaze darts to the ominous doorway, her senses on high alert. Halie! she calls out, her voice strained with urgency. Keep that symbol in sight. If it starts to glow any brighter, we may need to make a quick exit. The dwarf's eyes narrow as she considers their options, her mind racing through the potential consequences of this unexpected detour.

She turns to face the party, her expression grim but determined. Listen up, you lot, Varrika growls, her voice low and commanding. We're in deep now, and there's no going back. But we'll be damned if we let this tower claim another victim. Her gaze locks onto each member of the party in turn, her eyes blazing with fierce resolve. Jeane's counting on us to get her out of there alive. And when we do... she pauses, a note of warning in her tone, ...we're taking the fight to whatever dark sorcerers or ancient evils are lurking in this godforsaken place.
