Round 29 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The Bound Spirit's voice continues to whisper in their minds, "The first trial is not of strength, but of wisdom. You must answer a riddle, and if you succeed, you shall pass into the next stage." The air around Halie shimmers, as if reality itself is bending to accommodate her move. Merrin's eyes narrow, her grip on her mace tightening in protest. Jeane's eyes flick to the symbols, her brow furrowed in concentration. The blue light from the symbols on the ground intensifies, casting an eerie glow over the catwalk. Halie's hand remains extended, her fingers hovering just above the Bound Spirit's outstretched hand. The air around her seems to ripple, as if reality itself is warping to accommodate her move. Suddenly, a low, ominous chuckle echoes through the chamber, making the stone floor vibrate beneath their feet. The blue light grows brighter, illuminating the dark recesses of the tower's walls. The Bound Spirit's voice continues to whisper in their minds, "The answer lies in the shadows. Seek out the darkness, and you shall find the truth." The air around them seems to vibrate with residual magic, and the symbols on the ground begin to pulse with an otherworldly energy. Halie takes a step forward, her hand extended, as if to grasp the spirit's outstretched hand. The Bound Spirit's voice whispers in their minds, "The test of worthiness is not for the brave, but for those who seek wisdom." Merrin's eyes narrow, her grip on her mace tightening in protest. Jeane's eyes flick to the symbols, her brow furrowed in concentration. The blue light from the symbols on the ground intensifies, casting an eerie glow over the catwalk. The air around them seems to vibrate with residual magic, and the symbols on the ground begin to pulse with an otherworldly energy.
I step forward, my hand on the hilt of my mace, eyes scanning the dark shadows cast by the pulsing blue light. "Halie, wait!" I call out, my voice tense with urgency. "We don't know what we're dealing with here. That spirit could be trying to pull us into its realm or something worse."
My gaze darts to the symbols etched into the stone, their ancient magic making my skin crawl. "Seraphine," I say, turning to the wizard, "can you identify those runes? They look... familiar to you?"
I take a step back from the edge of the catwalk, my heart pounding in my chest. "Something feels wrong here," I mutter, "like we're walking into a trap we can't even see yet." But there's no going back—not now. Not after coming this far.
So we push forward, one careful step at a time, trying to outsmart whatever ancient evils might be lying in wait.
I stare at the pulsing symbols, my eyes narrowed in concentration. The acrid scent of ancient magic stings my nostrils, and I can feel the oppressive weight of dark power pressing down on us from above. These are no ordinary runes—I recognize the style immediately, cold dread settling into my gut. "These are binding circles," I say, my voice tight with concern. "They're designed to contain powerful entities—and judging by their age and complexity, whoever bound this spirit had access to some of the darkest magics in existence." My fingers trace the intricate patterns etched into the stone, feeling the residual energy humming beneath my fingertips. I take a step back from the edge of the catwalk, putting distance between myself and the bound entity. "Halie," I warn, my voice low and urgent, "whatever this spirit offers, it likely comes with a steep price. Binding spells like these aren't cast on innocents—they're designed to contain beings whose power is too great, or whose nature too dangerous, to be allowed free rein."
My eyes flick to Merrin, noting her grip on the mace and the tension in her stance. She's right to be wary—we've already faced dark magic once this journey, and that encounter nearly cost us everything. "We need more information," I continue, addressing the whole group now. "This spirit claims a trial of wisdom, but trials like these are often traps disguised as tests. What does it gain by freeing you? Why bind you here in the first place?" I gesture to the tower walls around us. "And what other dangers might be lurking, waiting for us to let our guard down?"
The symbols continue to pulse with blue light, casting eerie shadows across the catwalk. I can sense the ambient magic growing stronger, responding to Halie's proximity—or perhaps her willingness to engage. "We should approach this carefully," I say, already formulating a plan in my mind. "Let me try to analyze these runes further, see if I can discern their purpose or find any hidden triggers." I reach into my robes, pulling out a small pouch of powdered silver—a rare alchemical reagent that reacts to magical energies. "I'll need a moment," I explain, kneeling down near the edge of one of the symbols. "Don't touch anything while I work—I don't want to accidentally set off some ancient trap or release whatever's bound here."
