Round 1

[Narrator | Narrator]
The flickering candles cast eerie shadows on the cracked stone walls of the ruined border chapel, the air thick with the scent of damp timber and decay. The heavy table, once a symbol of faith and order, now serves as a makeshift war room, where the party's final safe shelter before the Whispering Woods awaits. The dim light casts long shadows across the faces of Jeane, Halie, Varrika, Seraphine, and Merrin, seated around the table, their eyes locked on the Narrator.

"You all gathered here today for one reason," the Narrator begins, her voice low and measured. "The village priestess, concerned about the increasing darkness in the Whispering Woods, has entrusted you with a perilous task. She believes that the legendary Time-Splitting Sword, hidden within the accursed tower, holds the key to restoring balance to the region."

She pauses, letting the weight of the words sink in.

"The sword is said to be able to manipulate time itself, and its power is rumored to be bound to the tower's dark guardian. You've been hired by the priestess to retrieve the sword and bring it back to her, but you're aware that every tale of the tower speaks of undead horrors, dark sorcerers, and travelers who returned older, madder, or not at all."

The Narrator gestures to a large map spread out on the table, its parchment worn and torn in several places.

"We've received reports of skeleton guards patrolling the ground floor, and rumors of shadow demons bound within the tower walls. We don't know what you'll face when you enter the tower, but we do know that the time for hesitation is over."

She leans forward, her eyes locked on the cast.

"Success will mean retrieving the Time-Splitting Sword, bringing it back to the priestess, and restoring hope to the village. Failure will mean facing unimaginable horrors, and the darkness will consume the Whispering Woods forever."

The room falls silent, the only sound the distant rumble of thunder outside, a reminder that time is running out.

"Are you all committed to this endeavor?" the Narrator asks, her voice steady but laced with a hint of urgency. "What do we need to know before we proceed?"

[Jeane | Sorcerer]
Jeane's wings flutter slightly in irritation as she listens to the Narrator outline the dangerous task ahead. Her eyes narrow, calculating the risks and rewards. Committed? Perhaps. But tell me—what safeguards have been put in place for our protection? And more importantly, what is the exact nature of this Time-Splitting Sword that makes it so valuable? Its power over time intrigues me greatly, but only if I can be assured of controlling such an artifact rather than it controlling us.

[Halie | Cleric]
I lean forward, my hands clasped tightly around the Holy Symbol of the Goddess of Light resting on the table before me. The flickering candles reveal the doubt and apprehension etched across Merrin’s face, the grim determination in Varrika’s eyes, and the barely contained excitement in Jeane’s gaze—each reaction a testament to the dangerous path we’ve chosen.

[Merrin | Rogue]
I shift uncomfortably in my seat, my fingers absently fiddling with the lockpicks at my belt. Look, I appreciate the chance for some excitement and a bit of coin, but let's not forget what we're dealing with here. That tower is a death trap, and we're talking about messing with time itself. What's to say we won't come out the other side as old crones or worse? I glance around the table, my eyes settling on Halie. No offense, but I'd feel a lot better about this if we had someone with some healing magic in our group. Just in case things go sideways.

[Seraphine | Wizard]
I listen intently to the Narrator's words, my sharp elven ears picking up every detail. A shiver traces down my spine as she speaks of the undead horrors and shadow demons that guard the tower, but it is the mention of the Time-Splitting Sword that truly captures my attention.
My gaze drops to the map on the table, studying the faded lines and cryptic symbols with a scholar's eye. I can feel the weight of centuries in the air around us, a heavy burden of forgotten history and lost knowledge. "The Time-Splitting Sword," I murmur, the words tasting like ancient power on my tongue. "A weapon capable of manipulating the very flow of time itself? That is a power beyond imagining, one that could rewrite entire histories if mishandled."
I look up, meeting Jeane's eyes across the table. A slow smile spreads across my face, a dangerous glint in my eyes. "I share your concern about control, Jeane. An artifact of such magnitude must be approached with the utmost caution and respect. But to study it, to understand its workings... that is a scholar's dream." My voice drops to a near whisper, filled with a reverent awe. "Imagine the secrets it could hold, the lost spells and forbidden rituals it might reveal. We must be careful, yes, but we must also seize this opportunity while we can."
My attention shifts back to Merrin, a flicker of amusement touching my lips at their concern. "And you, Merrin, fret too much about old age. The true horror is not becoming an old crone, but being trapped in time, unable to escape the moment of your death. That is the fate of those who anger the guardians of chronology." I lean back in my chair, a thoughtful expression crossing my face. "But I agree with Halie. A cleric's healing magic would be invaluable. Perhaps we can persuade the priestess to provide one if she values her quest so highly."
The sound of thunder outside makes me jump slightly, and I pull my cloak tighter around my shoulders. The air in the room suddenly feels colder, heavier. I push the sensation aside, focusing instead on the task at hand. "The question is not whether we are committed," I say, my voice gaining a note of firm resolve. "It is

[Varrika | Fighter]
I sit back in my chair, my scarred hands gripping the armrests tightly. The weight of the responsibility settles heavily on my shoulders as I consider the task ahead. The priestess' words ring in my ears, a desperate plea for hope in the face of encroaching darkness.
