As Halie makes her decision, Jeane nods resolutely, her eyes never leaving the sealed corridor leading to the heart chamber. "I'll get started," she says, her voice firm. "Merrin, you with me?"

She turns to Seraphine, concern etched on her face. "Seraphine, can you cast a spell to stabilize the area around us? We need some time to breathe."

Seraphine nods, her eyes already closing as exhaustion takes its toll. With a Herculean effort, she casts a weak stabilization spell, and a faint blue glow erupts from her outstretched hand. Suddenly, a loud crack echoes through the chamber, followed by the sound of falling debris. The narrow stairway creaks ominously, its pulsing glow intensifying. Jeane's eyes snap towards the stairway, her grip on her holy symbol tightening. "It's starting," she says, her voice low and deadly serious.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I look at the error message, then back at Halie and Seraphine. You said 'ten minutes'? Fine. I'll give you your precious ten minutes—and if I don't come back with a solution that keeps this tower from crushing us all, then feel free to let it collapse while you run screaming down whatever dark hole you can find. I turn toward the sealed corridor leading to the heart chamber, my hand already moving to trace the inverse rune spell etched into the air.

Halie

Halie · Cleric

I clutch my holy symbol tightly, feeling its weight against my chest like an anchor in this swirling chaos. "Jeane," I say, my voice barely louder than the creaking walls around us, "if you're serious about ten minutes, then you'd better make every second count. Because if we get buried under a mountain of stone because you wouldn't listen to common sense..." I trail off, unable to finish the thought.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I feel my knees buckle under me as the last vestiges of magical energy leave my body in a wave of dizziness. The ground rushes up to meet me, and I collapse onto the cold stone floor with a dull thud, my robes pooling around me like a dark pool of shadow. "Halie," I gasp out, my voice a strained whisper over the groaning of the walls around us, "we need to get out of here now. This place... it's consuming everything."
I push myself up on one elbow, struggling to remain conscious as my vision swims. The faint blue glow of my stabilization spell flickers and wanes, casting eerie shadows across the crumbling chamber. "The corruption... it's too much. We can't fight it anymore."
My gaze darts to the sealed corridor leading to the heart chamber, then back to Jeane. Her face is set with grim determination, but I see the fear behind her eyes—the same fear that’s been gnawing at my own heart since we entered this cursed tower. "Jeane," I say, my voice gaining strength despite the exhaustion, "if you're going after that rune, take me with you. Two heads are better than one, and I can still cast a few more spells if it means getting us out of here alive."
I struggle to stand, my legs feeling like jelly beneath me. The world tilts dangerously for a moment before I regain my balance. "Halie, you stay here and try to keep the structure from collapsing on top of us. But if we don't make it back within... five minutes, leave. Don't wait for us."
I look at Jeane again, my expression softening with concern. "And Jeane? If this is a one-way trip, promise me you'll try to come back if things go wrong. No noble sacrifices, no 'I'll hold the line' nonsense. We leave together or not at all."
My hand goes to the heavy mace at my belt, feeling its solid weight as a small comfort in this chaotic nightmare we've found ourselves trapped within. The groaning of the tower grows louder, more insistent, and I know our time is running out faster than any sand-filled hourglass. "Let's move," I say, my voice now a commanding growl as I force myself to take a step towards the sealed corridor. "Before this whole damn place falls down on top of us."
