Halie's hands move frantically over the stone door, her fingers tracing ancient carvings that seem to hold more curses than useful secrets. The door groans open wider, revealing a dark passageway leading into the heart of the tower. The air beyond is thick with the scent of decay and ancient magic. As you step forward, Varrika's mace cracks against the stone floor, echoing through the chamber. The sound is followed by the scrape of skeleton fingers against the magical fabric of Jeane's spell. The gate creaks under increasing pressure, threatening to fail at any moment.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I feel the tower groaning around us like a dying beast, its ancient stone complaining under centuries of neglect and the sudden strain of our presence. The inverse rune I've cast across the main gate flickers—actually fucking flickers—under the ambient dark magic that's seeping through this place like poison in water. My wings beat once, twice, instinctively trying to lift me away from this cursed ground even though we're trapped between rubble and undead horde. The skeletons press against the barrier—I can feel their dead fingers scraping at the magical fabric—and for a moment I think we might actually have bought ourselves some time here. Then Merrin shouts something about a stone door and Halie's already moving toward it, her fingers tracing carvings that probably hold more ancient curses than actual useful secrets. Varrika covers them both, which is good because if anyone gets their throat slit by skeleton fingers while I'm keeping the front door shut, we're all fucked. "Merrin!" I snap, barely maintaining my concentration on the spell. "Tell me you've got something before that tower collapses and turns us into a meat paste in the wall!"

The tower shudders again—louder this time—and something gives way behind us. A section of the fucking wall just... lets go. Rubble crashes down where Halie was standing moments before, and I see her dive sideways into Merrin's arms as stones the size of my head bounce off the floor where she stood. "Fuck!" The word slips out before I can stop it because holy shit, that could have been a person instead of empty space. We're losing structural integrity by the second here. The gate groans under skeleton pressure and my spell wavers again as more dust and debris fill the air. I need options, and I need them now before we become part of this tower's fucked-up history. "Merrin! Any chance you can get that door open faster than collapse time?"

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

The door groans open wider, revealing a dark passageway leading into the heart of the tower. The air beyond is thick with the scent of decay and ancient magic, but it's our only way out of this collapsing nightmare. "Everyone, stay close!" I call out, my voice tight with tension. "We move as one or we don't move at all. Jeane, keep that spell up! We need every second we can get!"

With a final push, the door swings open fully, revealing the dark passage beyond. The tower groans around us, its ancient stones shifting and settling like a restless giant. But for now, it's holding together enough for us to make our escape. I take a deep breath, my heart pounding in my ears as I prepare to lead the way into whatever fresh horrors await us. But at least we'll face them together, united against the darkness that threatens to swallow us whole. "Varrika, Halie, Seraphine—you're with me," I say firmly, my hand moving to the hilt of my dagger as I step forward into the unknown. "Jeane, keep that spell up for as long as you can. We'll find a way to disable the magic defenses from the other side."

I glance back at Jeane, my eyes meeting hers briefly before I turn to face the darkness ahead. "And if anyone gets separated from the group, don't try to fight your way back alone. We stick together or we don't make it out of this place at all."

With that, I step forward into the passageway, my senses on high alert as I scan the shadows for any sign of danger. The air is thick with the scent of ancient magic and decay, and I can feel the weight of centuries pressing down on us from all sides. But we have no choice. This is our only way out, and we'll face whatever lies ahead together or not at all.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I feel the tower shudder around us, its ancient stones groaning in protest as they strain against centuries of neglect. The dust chokes my throat and stings my eyes, but I force myself to focus, my staff held high as I try to reinforce the protective ward Jeane has cast across the main gate. Merrin's voice cuts through the chaos. "Everyone, stay close!" she calls out, her tone tight with tension. "We move as one or we don't move at all. Jeane, keep that spell up! We need every second we can get!"

I feel Seraphine stumble beside me, and I reach out to steady her with one arm, my mace still raised in the other hand. She nods gratefully, her staff glowing brighter for a moment as she tries to reinforce the protective barrier around us. Merrin and Halie are already moving towards the dark opening, their weapons drawn and ready. Varrika follows close behind, her massive frame creating a shield between us and whatever might be waiting in the shadows.
As we move into the darkness of the tower’s interior, I can feel the weight of centuries pressing down on us, the ancient stones groaning in protest as they strain against the passage of time. But for now, we are alive, and we will fight our way through this hellhole no matter what it takes.
