Round 35 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

Seraphine's voice is hoarse as she speaks, her words laced with urgency. "We need to move, Varrika. We can't stay here forever." She glances back at Merrin's unconscious form, her expression a mix of fear and determination. The air is thick with dust, making it difficult to see more than a few feet in front of them. A faint rumbling noise vibrates through the ground, a reminder that the tunnel behind them is slowly sealing itself off. Varrika nods, her eyes scanning their surroundings. "I've got an idea," she says, her voice barely above a whisper. "There's a narrow passageway to our left, just beyond the rubble. It looks like it might lead deeper into the tower." She gestures towards the passageway, her hand shaking slightly as she points. The sound of rushing water grows louder, and the air begins to fill with the acrid scent of smoke. "We need to move now, before the whole place collapses around us."
I listen to Varrika's plan, my heart hammering against my ribs. The sound of the settling rubble behind us is a constant, ominous reminder of how fragile our situation truly is. "That passageway looks treacherous," I say, my voice a strained whisper as I shift Merrin's weight in my arms. She remains unconscious, her head lolling against my shoulder with every step. The air here is heavy with the scent of old stone and something else—something sharp, metallic, and undeniably magical.
I glance back at the collapsed tunnel, a shiver running down my spine. It's completely sealed now, a solid wall of broken rock and debris. There’s no going back that way. "But you're right. We can't stay here." My gaze falls on the narrow opening Varrika indicated, its shadowed depths promising both escape and unknown dangers.
I take a hesitant step towards it, my boots crunching on the loose gravel. The ground feels unstable underfoot, as if the entire chamber is holding its breath, waiting to collapse further. "We should be prepared for anything," I mutter, more to myself than to Varrika. I try to remember the spells I still have available, mentally ticking them off like a list of last resorts.
The light from my dropped torch casts eerie shadows across the walls, dancing and flickering as if the very stones are alive. A faint, rhythmic thumping sound begins to echo from deep within the tunnel we're about to enter, like the beating of some enormous heart buried beneath the earth. I feel a chill settle into my bones.
I look at Varrika, her face set with grim determination in the dim light. She nods back at me, an unspoken understanding passing between us. We have no choice. We have to keep going. "Let's go," I say, my voice steadier now. I take another step towards the darkness, my resolve hardening. Whatever lies ahead, we face it together.
