Round 21 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The air is thick with dust and the stench of decay as Seraphine struggles to keep Merrin's head from hitting the rough stone floor. Varrika follows close behind, her mace held at the ready as she scans the dark passageway for any sign of movement from the skeletal monstrosities. Suddenly, a loud crack echoes through the tunnel, and the ground shudders beneath their feet. The skeletons halt their advance, their empty sockets fixed on the trio with an unnerving intensity. As they round another sharp corner, a chunk of debris crashes to the ground just ahead, sending dust and rock flying in all directions. Seraphine's foot catches on a root that has pushed its way through a crack in the floor, causing her to cry out in pain and stumble. The tunnel spins around her, the air thick with the scent of damp earth and ancient decay. Varrika rushes to her side, helping her steady herself against the wall. "We can't hold them both," Seraphine gasps, her legs shaking with exhaustion and pain.
I feel the ground shake again, harder this time—I'm certain now that whatever dark magic is keeping this tower standing is actively collapsing. We don't have minutes—we might have seconds before this whole cursed place comes down around our ears. I curse under my breath and redouble my pace through the narrow tunnel. I can hear Varrika's grunts of exertion echoing back from above, still managing to hold off those skeletons somehow despite being outnumbered. To myself: This is bad—really bad. Merrin's unconscious at the bottom of that pit with Seraphine trying to heal her, Halie's got a head injury and can't walk on her own, Varrika's buying us time by taking on multiple enemies alone... and now we're all trapped in this maze of stone with an angry tower collapsing around us. I take a deep breath, steadying myself. Okay. Priorities: Get to Merrin before she suffocates or gets crushed; get Halie stable enough to move at least semi-consciously; keep Varrika from dying up there alone. As I round another corner in the tunnel, my illumination spell flickering across ancient stonework carved with symbols that make even my skin crawl, I call back to Seraphine. "How's Merrin looking? Any change?"
I hope to whatever dark gods might be listening that she's waking up—if we have to carry two unconscious party members through a collapsing dungeon while fighting off skeletons and navigating unknown traps... well, let's just say our odds of survival drop significantly. I mutter another quick spell, this one meant to enhance my hearing so I can track what's happening above even as I push deeper into the tunnel.
The sound of cracking stone echoes through the walls around me—this place really is coming apart at the seams. I grit my teeth and keep moving. "Seraphine!" I call again, my voice echoing off the narrow walls. "Whatever you're doing, do it faster! This whole tower's about to become a pile of rubble!"
Suddenly, the ground beneath me shifts violently—I barely manage to catch myself against the wall as the tunnel tilts slightly. A fresh wave of dust and debris rains down from above, making me cough and covering everything in gray powder. Fucking hell! I shout, shaking my wings to clear them of debris. Okay—new plan: get to Merrin in the next thirty seconds or we're all buried alive! I pour on speed, my enhanced strength allowing me to move faster than normal without immediately collapsing from exhaustion. The tunnel opens up into a larger chamber just ahead—I can see Seraphine hunched over Merrin's prone form by the flickering light of my illumination spell. "Status report!" I call out as I approach. Is she breathing? Conscious at all? I try to keep the panic out of my voice—if Merrin dies down here, that's on me. As party leader, I should have anticipated this collapse and prepared better.
I look up as Jeane approaches, my face streaked with sweat and dust. "Merrin's breathing is shallow," I say, my voice tight with panic as I kneel beside Merrin's unconscious form on the cold stone floor. "Her pulse is weak but steady. The healing spell I cast seems to be stabilizing her, but she hasn't woken up yet." I gesture frantically towards the pile of rubble blocking the tunnel ahead. "That collapse... it was no accident. This whole place feels like it's coming apart around us."
I try to stand, my legs shaking with exhaustion and fear, but a sharp pain lances through my side again. I groan, doubling over as Jeane rushes to my side, her face etched with concern.
"Seraphine! Are you okay?" she asks, placing a hand on my shoulder to steady me. "What happened?"
I straighten up with difficulty, leaning heavily against the wall of the chamber. "I think I pulled something when I tripped back there," I pant, wincing as I try to take a deep breath. "It's not serious, but it makes moving hard." I glance back at Merrin's prone figure, then up at Jeane, my eyes wide with worry. "We have to get her out of here now. If this place collapses completely, we'll be buried alive."
As if on cue, another loud crack echoes through the chamber, and a shower of dust and small rocks falls from the ceiling above us. Jeane curses under her breath, her wings flaring out instinctively as she looks around for an escape route.
"Shit," she mutters, running a hand through her hair in frustration. "Okay, new plan. Seraphine, see if you can wake Merrin or at least get her conscious enough to help us move her. I'll try to find another way out of this chamber—there has to be something, some kind of secret passage or hidden door." She points towards a dark alcove on the far side of the room. "I saw some weird carvings back there when we first came in. They might be part of an old magic ward or a trigger mechanism for a trapdoor."
I nod, turning my attention back to Merrin as Jeane moves off towards the alcove. I place my hands on her chest, closing my eyes and focusing all my remaining energy into a powerful healing spell, one that's designed to wake even the most deeply unconscious patient. "Wake up, Merrin," I whisper, channeling every ounce of my will into the words.* "We need you awake right now. Wake up!"
