Round 129 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

Merrin's sword slices through the air, striking true against a shadowy figure that had emerged from the archway she chose, its presence revealed by a faint whisper of darkness. The blade bites deep into the figure's form, but it doesn't dissipate or vanish like expected; instead, the sword seems to pass right through it, leaving behind only a faint, flickering glow. The air is heavy with the stench of ozone and the hairs on Merrin's arms stand on end as the echoes of her strike seem to reverberate within her. Jeane's eyes widen in surprise, and she readjusts her stance, ready to provide cover for her companions. Seraphine's hand tightens around the heavy mace, her gaze darting between the archways, searching for any sign of movement or hidden threats. A faint hum grows louder, the symbols on the walls pulsating with an energy that seems to be drawing the trio deeper into the heart of the ancient structure. The hum builds in intensity until it becomes a deafening roar, threatening to drown out all other sounds. The ground shudders violently beneath their feet as the chamber begins to change around them, the walls melting away like wax to reveal a vast, seemingly endless void.
I feel my heart leap into my throat as Merrin's sword passes right through that shadowy figure, the air crackling with a power I can't comprehend. The ground beneath our feet begins to tremble, and I grip my mace tighter, bracing myself for what feels like an inevitable collapse. But it isn't collapse that comes—it's something far stranger.
The chamber around us melts away, the solid stone walls dissolving into a swirling vortex of light and shadow. My ears fill with a deafening roar as the void opens up before us, vast and terrifyingly infinite. Jeane and Merrin are suddenly just dark shapes beside me, their forms distorted by the shifting reality.
I stumble back, my foot catching on something unseen in the chaos. I fall hard onto the cold stone floor, the wind knocked out of me. For a moment, everything goes black. When my vision clears, I see Jeane and Merrin standing over me, their faces etched with concern and confusion.
I push myself up to my knees, my head spinning. The vortex has stopped its mad swirling, leaving behind an endless expanse of what looks like stars and galaxies. We're no longer in the tower—we've been transported somewhere else entirely, a realm of cosmic proportions.
"I... I don't understand," I gasp, my voice barely audible over the ringing in my ears. "What was that? Where are we now?"
The ground beneath us feels solid again, but it’s no longer stone. It’s a smooth, obsidian-like surface that reflects the distant lights above. Jeane is already moving, her wings spread wide for balance as she stalks around the perimeter of our new location, examining every detail with her usual intensity.
Merrin, meanwhile, has her sword still drawn, scanning the horizon of this strange plane warily. Her posture is tense, ready to strike at any perceived threat. They seem to have adapted to this change immediately, their training and instincts kicking into high gear.
I struggle to my feet, my legs wobbling beneath me. The mace feels heavy in my hand now, more of a burden than a weapon. I look around, taking in the vastness of it all—the swirling nebulae, the distant stars, the silent, watchful presence of this alien world. A shiver runs down my spine, a mixture of awe and raw terror.
I turn to Jeane, who is now crouched near one of the strange structures that dot the landscape. It looks like some kind of ancient altar, covered in runes I don't recognize. She looks up at me, her expression grimly determined.
"Jeane," I say, my voice stronger this time. "What do we do now? We can't just stay here—this place is too dangerous, too unknown."
