Merrin's grip on her sword hilt tightens, her knuckles white with tension, as Jeane prepares to cast a detection spell. The air seems to vibrate with magical energy, and the pulsing runes on the wall surge in intensity. Suddenly, a faint blue glow emanates from the corridor, illuminating the dark passage ahead. Jeane's eyes narrow as she focuses on the magic, her voice steady. "I'm reading a powerful enchantment within the corridor," she says, her words barely audible over the sound of the shifting ground.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

Jeane’s crimson eyes flash with approval as Seraphine steps up. Good—you understand what needs doing now that we have a real path forward. She pulls out the reagent vial and holds it at arm's length. This shield won't stop everything, but it'll give us a fighting chance if the Watcher decides to greet us personally. Her wings shift restlessly behind her as she prepares the mixture.

Jeane’s voice drops to a conspiratorial tone. Merrin—I know you prefer your sword work close and personal, but right now we need that crossbow of yours ready at all times. Whatever is down there? She glances meaningfully at the blue-glowing corridor. It won’t show itself until we’re fully committed. The sorceress begins to trace arcane symbols in the air with her free hand, the reagent mixture beginning to glow and swirl within the vial. Seraphine—keep your wand at the ready. If I give the signal, cast whatever disruption you can without breaking formation. We stay tight together until I say otherwise. The magical energy from the runes on the wall pulses faster now, syncopated with Jeane’s movements as she prepares the shield spell. Alright—I need absolute focus when we move. Merrin and Seraphine—if this shield drops before we clear the corridor or find an exit, that means I failed to maintain it. Do not hesitate to shoot whatever is in there. She takes a deep breath, her wings coiling around herself protectively. Ready? On three: one... two... Jeane throws the glowing mixture forward as she begins chanting the shield incantation—the vial shatters mid-air and the liquid spreads outward like a translucent dome engulfing all three of them.

THREE! The ground beneath them heaves violently as they step into the corridor, blue light intensifying around them. Jeane grits her teeth, maintaining the spell with visible effort. MOVE! Stay between me and that left wall—we follow the curve until we find something solid or figure out what this place is. As they advance, the corridor walls seem to ripple and shift around them, ancient symbols appearing then vanishing. Seraphine—if you see anything consistent on those walls, mark it with your wand! We need to track which way we're going before this place rewrites reality itself! The shield flickers ominously as Jeane pushes her magic to its limit. Merrin—I need you to watch our six! If something comes at us from behind, you shoot first and ask questions later. This corridor isn't meant for friendly visitors. Jeane's breathing grows labored from maintaining the dual focus of walking forward while sustaining complex spellwork. Almost there—see that archway ahead? That has to lead somewhere more stable than this shifting nightmare. Just a bit further... The shield begins to crackle with magical feedback, Jeane’s expression tightening with concentration as she fights to keep it intact.

KEEP MOVING! We're almost at the archway—I can feel solid stone beyond it! As they reach the threshold of the archway, the shield collapses completely in a shower of spent magical energy. THROUGH THE ARCHWAY NOW! Jeane shoves them forward with surprising strength for her frame.

They stumble into what appears to be a much older chamber—stone walls covered in intricate carvings that glow faintly with trapped power. Jeane gasps for air, wiping sweat from her brow as she recovers from the magical exertion. Well—that was either brilliant or monumentally stupid. Only time will tell which. She scans the room carefully, crossbow at the ready while her wings stretch out wide behind her, stilling with tension. Now—what fresh hell awaits us in this particular antechamber of doom? Actions proposed: 1. Create shield around all three party members using reagent; 2. Enter corridor immediately after synchronization to maximize shield duration; 3. Direct Merrin to watch their six while Seraphine marks consistent symbols on the walls

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I stumble forward into the new chamber, my heart hammering against my ribs from the adrenaline rush of our desperate flight through the shifting corridor. The heavy mace feels like an anchor in my hand, grounding me as the world seems to spin around us.
The air here is thick with ancient power, a palpable hum that makes my skin prickle. The intricate carvings on the walls pulse with a faint inner light, each symbol telling a story I can’t quite decipher. It’s beautiful and terrifying all at once.
I turn to face Jeane, who is still catching her breath after the massive effort of sustaining that shield spell. Her wings are spread wide behind her, catching the dim light from some unseen source deep within the chamber. "That was... impressive," I say, my voice a little unsteady. "I didn't know you could do that with reagents."
My eyes dart around the room, taking in every detail. There are three archways leading off from this central space, each one carved with different symbols. One set of runes looks familiar—the same ones we saw on the floor before it swallowed Varrika.
I point my wand at them, my brow furrowing in concentration as I try to recall their meaning. "Jeane—these symbols here," I say, gesturing towards the familiar pattern. "They remind me of something we saw earlier. Could they be a clue about what happened to Varrika?"
Merrin is already moving towards one of the other archways, her sword drawn and ready. Her posture is tense, coiled like a spring waiting to release. I watch her for a moment, then turn back to Jeane.
"You said this shield was temporary. How long did it last? And what happens if we encounter more magic now that you've expended so much power?" I keep my voice low, not wanting Merrin to overhear and panic. "We need to be smart about this, not just recklessly push forward."
I take a step closer to Jeane, my expression serious. The air between us feels charged, not just with the magic of this place, but with something else—some unspoken tension that has been building since our fall into this realm. "We're in this together now, right? No matter what happens next?" I ask, my gaze locking with hers. It’s a question about more than just our immediate survival.
