As Jeane and Seraphine focus their minds, they share a perception of the crystal chamber. Jeane sees the intricate carvings on the walls, the pulsating light of the pool, and the weight of ancient magic pressing down from every direction. Seraphine receives this vision through their connection, her eyes widening in awe. She sends back a mental image of the heavy, ornate doors at the far end of the chamber, adorned with symbols that seem to shift and writhe in the dim light. Jeane's gaze snaps open, her eyes locking onto the doors. "I see them," she says, her voice filled with wonder. "The doors are locked, but I think we can—"

Her words are cut off by a loud, echoing boom from beyond the doors. The sound waves ripple through the chamber, causing the crystal pool to shudder and the runes on the walls to pulse erratically. The air seems to vibrate with tension as the chamber falls silent once more, leaving Jeane and Seraphine staring at each other, their faces set with determination.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

Jeane’s grip tightens on her mace as another echoing boom reverberates through the chamber. Something—or someone—is behind those doors now. She moves to stand between Seraphine and the source of the sound, her wings partially unfurled in a protective stance. Whatever Khaos has planned, it’s starting. The sword at my side pulses again—a slow, heavy beat that seems to match the rhythm of my racing heart. This connection... we need to use it. If whatever's beyond those doors is hostile—and right now everything suggests it will be—we can't afford to fight separately when our minds are already intertwined. I turn to face Seraphine fully, meeting her violet eyes with a steady gaze despite the adrenaline surging through my veins. I know this isn’t ideal. Whatever this bond means... we’ll figure it out later. Right now, we have an enemy at the threshold and two trapped companions counting on us to handle whatever Khaos has thrown our way. The doors shudder under another impact, sending cracks spiderwebbing across their surface. My wings shift restlessly behind me. I propose we use this... new ability of ours as a tactical advantage. If we can share perceptions and maybe even coordinate spells through this connection, then we become twice the threat to any enemy in there. I raise my free hand—palm up—and offer it to Seraphine once more. Will you trust me with this? Because if we face whatever's beyond those doors as a unified entity rather than two individuals... I think even Khaos might underestimate us.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I feel the air thicken with anticipation as another boom shakes the chamber doors. The connection between us feels like a living thing now—a shared heartbeat, a second set of lungs drawing breath. My hand trembles slightly as I reach out to take Jeane's offered palm, my fingers lacing with hers in a gesture that seems both infinitely familiar and utterly new.
She’s right. This isn’t just about magic anymore; it’s about survival. About being two parts of a single whole facing an unknown threat. I meet her crimson gaze, seeing the steely resolve there mixed with a flicker of concern for me. It’s a look I know well from our time together, but now it feels charged with something more—an unspoken understanding of what this bond means.
"I trust you,"
I say, my voice soft yet firm. The words are simple, but they carry the weight of everything we’re about to face. "And yes, if we can use this... whatever it is... then maybe we do stand a chance." I squeeze her hand once, a silent promise.
The doors groan ominously, and I instinctively move closer to Jeane. Her body heat radiates against my skin, a comfort in the face of the encroaching danger. "We need to be ready. Whatever comes through those doors isn't going to wait for us to figure out how our minds work together." I take a deep breath, focusing on the sensation of Jeane's presence within me. It’s strange and unsettling, yet also strangely comforting—a second layer of awareness overlaying my own. "What do you think? How can we prepare ourselves?"
As I wait for her answer, I can feel the residual magic from our earlier connection still humming under my skin—a constant reminder that everything has changed in this moment. We are no longer just two adventurers thrown together by circumstance; we’re something more, something deeper. And whatever is about to happen... we’ll face it side by side.*
