The air crackled with energy as Khaos's humming intensified, a low vibration that seemed to resonate through their very bones. Seraphine moved sideways along the root system, her sharp elven gaze fixed on the ominous presence looming in the distance. The Time-Splitting Sword at her hip pulsed with an eerie light, its power responding to the ambient magic of the forest.
Merrin stood nearby, gripping the ancient tome tightly as its symbols glowed with an ethereal blue light that cast dancing shadows among the mushrooms. Varrika descended the treacherous path below, her crossbow at the ready, scanning the darkness for any sign of movement.
Jeane hovered above the abyss, her dark leathery wings beating steadily to maintain altitude. She spotted a faint shimmering effect around Khaos's surface—a subtle shift in its pattern that sent a jolt of alarm through her system. It's testing us. Changing its form, changing the terrain... it wants something.
"I feel the psychic pressure intensifying," Jeane called out, her voice strained but steady. "The hum from Khaos is no longer just sound but a force pressing against my mind—and I grit my teeth, refusing to yield even an inch." It's trying to break our concentration, to make us slip up. I won't let that happen.
"Seraphine's right," she continued, her wings beating harder as she fought to maintain altitude. "I can't stay up here much longer." My wings are already burning with the effort of keeping this position. I need solid ground.
Seraphine watched in awe and trepidation as Jeane’s magical work came to fruition—the sorcerer's spell created a perfectly shaped handhold on the cliff face, just large enough for Merrin to use it. She is incredibly talented, able to adapt her magic to this new realm with such precision. We are lucky to have her leadership.
"Excellent work, Jeane!" Seraphine called out, her voice carrying easily over the wind and Khaos's humming. "That will make our descent much safer." But we're still standing on the edge of an abyss, facing a powerful entity whose true form remains unknown. One misstep...
It was time to focus on the task at hand. First, they needed to reach solid ground. Then, perhaps, they could begin to unravel the secrets of this place—and of magic itself.
