As Seraphine speaks, the entity's form solidifies into a massive, shadowy figure with glowing red eyes. It regards her calmly, its consciousness pressing against hers like a gentle tide. The air around them crackles with energy as the entity begins to speak in a voice that resonates within Seraphine's mind. "You have freed me," it says. "I am Khaos, the ancient one bound to this place. I hold the secrets of magic within my depths, and I will share them with you... if you can answer my riddle."

Khaos's form shifts, taking on a more humanoid shape, and it gestures to a large, glowing symbol etched into the stone floor. "Solve this riddle, and the power of the Time-Splitting Sword shall be yours. Fail, and you will join me in eternal slumber."

Jeane's eyes widen in alarm as she takes a step back, her hand on the hilt of her mace. She whispers to Seraphine, "What does it mean? What's the riddle?"

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

Jeane stares at the massive shadowy figure looming over Seraphine, her crimson eyes narrowed with suspicion. Khaos, you say? Sounds more like a bad horror movie than something we should be trusting right now. She takes an instinctive step back, one hand still gripping the hilt of her mace, the other trailing towards her hip where she'd usually keep a dagger—though in this moment, it's conspicuously absent. A riddle for power? That's textbook demon bargain crap. I've seen how these things go down—a little test here, a little favor there, and before you know it, your soul's on the menu. Jeane's wings ruffle with barely contained agitation as she watches Seraphine kneeling before the entity. Hey wizard, she calls out, her voice tight, this isn't what we came for. We're here to grab the sword and bounce, not start cosplaying as demonic apprentices. What kind of 'secrets' could it possibly have that's worth risking whatever the hell is going on with you right now? She glances around the chamber, noting the pulsing runes on the pillars and the way they seem to respond to Khaos's presence. And did you miss the part where it said 'fail and join me in eternal slumber'? That sounds less like a motivational speaker and more like a death threat with extra steps. Jeane's eyes return to Seraphine, studying her friend's altered state with growing concern. Whatever that thing is doing to you—look at yourself! You're glowing like a damn firefly. How do we know this isn't just it manipulating you somehow? She lowers her voice, almost whispering now. Maybe we should pull back and reassess before you sign us both up for whatever cosmic mindfuck this is. Despite her words, Jeane finds herself taking another step forward, drawn by a mixture of curiosity and concern. Her demonic heritage screams warnings in the back of her head, but something else—something primal and hungry—whispers that there might be truth to what Khaos offers. Fine, she mutters at last, you want to play riddle master? Then let's hear it already. But if this turns into some soul-selling shitshow, we're outta here faster than a priest in a brothel. Jeane's hand tightens on her mace as she glares up at Khaos. And just so we're clear—whatever you show her, I expect the same damn deal. Full transparency or no deal at all. We're not leaving anyone behind, even if they get themselves wrapped around some shadowy cock... metaphorically speaking, of course. She glances back at Seraphine one more time. Come on, wizard. Show me what you've got—and remember, I'm the one who'll have to beat our way out if this goes tits up.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I feel the power of Khaos's presence wash over me, its ancient energy a tangible force pressing against my skin. The glowing lines that map out my body pulse in time with my racing heart, and I know without a doubt that this is exactly where I'm meant to be. Jeane's warnings echo in my mind, but they sound distant, like a fading dream.
I look up at Khaos, my eyes locking with its own fiery gaze. There's no malice there—only an endless well of knowledge and power waiting to be unleashed. "The riddle," I say, my voice steady despite the tremble running through me. "I'll answer it."
My mind races, trying to decipher the meaning behind the glowing symbol on the floor. It's a complex pattern, a tangle of lines and curves that seem to shift and change as I stare at them. But beneath its complexity, a single word forms: Understanding.
I take a deep breath, the air filling my lungs with the scent of old stone and ancient magic. "Understanding is the key," I say aloud, my words ringing with conviction. "Not just knowledge, but a deeper, truer comprehension. The kind that shapes reality itself."
The entity's form shimmers, its shadowy tendrils retracting slightly as it regards me with what looks almost like approval. "Correct," its voice resonates within my skull, a deep, melodic sound that vibrates through my bones. "And what of you, succubus? Do you also seek this understanding? Or do you cling to your mortal doubts?"
I turn to Jeane, seeing the confusion and worry written plainly on her face. She's right to be cautious—this is dangerous territory we're treading. But I can feel the truth of Khaos's words settling into my very core, a certainty that chases away all fear.
I reach out a hand towards her, not quite touching, but offering a silent gesture of solidarity. "Jeane," I say softly, "I know this looks... strange. But I can feel it. This isn't manipulation; it's liberation. The secrets Khaos holds—the power of the Time-Splitting Sword—it could change everything we thought we knew about magic. About what we can become."
My eyes drift back to the sword, its pulsing light now a beacon in the dim chamber. I can almost see the patterns it holds, the paths of power waiting to be unraveled. "I have to see this through," I say, my voice firm with resolve. "I have to know what lies beyond this riddle. What kind of magic is even possible when you hold the threads of time itself."
Jeane's expression remains skeptical, but I see a flicker of curiosity in her eyes. She’s always been a creature of instinct, of raw power and unbridled desire. Maybe she can sense the truth too—the potential for something greater than we could ever achieve alone.
I take a step closer to Khaos, my hand still outstretched towards Jeane. "But I won't go alone. Whatever this is, whatever price we have to pay—we face it together. That's what a party does, right?" A faint smile touches my lips as I remember our original purpose for being here. "We came for an artifact of immense power. And now... now I believe we've found something far more valuable. The chance to understand the very foundations of magic itself."
My gaze returns to Khaos, my posture straightening as I prepare myself for whatever revelation is to come. "Show me," I say, my voice ringing with a newfound authority.* "Show us both what you know. And then... let's see if we can learn how to wield it."
