Round 2 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 2
The lantern’s glow settles on the cracked altar as the three sit in a quiet circle, each wary of the ash‑filled air that clings to their clothes. Jeane’s key, Silra’s wary eyes, and Sister Hale’s unholy symbol all speak of caution and ambition. The question remains: will they help rebuild the chapel into a new sanctuary for a fledgling faith, knowing that guards patrol the streets and ancient traps still guard the ruins? Or will they decline, preferring to keep their lives safe while the city’s wrath and unseen dangers linger beneath the cobbles? Sister Hale has voiced her reluctance to compromise her creed; Silra demands clear funding and purpose; Jeane is ready to use her magic if the risk is worth the reward. The choice sits before them: commit to the reconstruction and its hidden agenda, or walk away from the ashes of Gravehill.
Jeane Cromwell's gaze is cold steel, her voice measured. I will participate under three conditions. First—we confirm that whatever lurks beneath Gravehill stays buried and away from our operation. Second—there's a clear chain of command and funding source, preferably someone with enough influence to keep the city guard at bay. Third—and this is non-negotiable—I want control over any ritual aspects; magic isn't a hobby for amateurs. If those terms are met and the risk is calculated as manageable, then I'll commit my skills to this little project of resurrection—both for the church and whatever else might crawl out from under it.
Silra leans back against a pile of rubble, her fingers absently testing the weight and balance of a loose stone. I'll participate—barely—but with conditions that keep us all alive long enough to see if this is worth the trouble. First: we scout every inch of those ruins before moving in anything heavier than reconnaissance gear. Second: no half-assed rituals unless they're tested first, and if something goes wrong mid-ceremony I want an exit strategy already mapped out. Third: whatever's funding this has to be clean enough that it doesn't come back to bite us when the city guard gets curious about 'renovation work.' And lastly—she looks directly at Sister Hale—no moral posturing unless you're willing to back it up with action, not just words. I need to know which of us can actually handle ourselves if things get messy and which of us will be a liability.
I meet their eyes evenly. I will participate, but with my own conditions that align with what we all believe this is truly about: tending sacred ground and protecting the innocent who might find shelter here. First—no rituals that compromise our safety or our moral integrity; if it feels wrong, we stop immediately. Second—I need to trust that whatever followers we attract are genuine seekers, not just curious or desperate; no deception of them for short-term gain. Third—and this is my line in the ash—I will not be part of any scheme where violence or exploitation becomes our tool. We rebuild with faith and honor, or we don’t do it at all.
