The cracked walls of the chapel stand silent under the storm’s howl, a single lantern flickering against the ash‑laden gloom. The party has voiced doubts and desires: Jeane seeks certainty about the subterranean thrumming; Silra wants a tangible reward from the rusted key; Sister Hale insists on reverence for the space. The unholy symbol lies beside the waterskin, the key clutched in a hand that still trembles. The decision now must be clear: commit to unlocking the altar’s hidden chamber and begin rebuilding the church as a place of worship—and, if successful, a base for growing a following—or abandon the effort, allowing Gravehill’s secrets to remain buried until the storm clears. Each member’s stance must be stated plainly, lest hesitation let the opportunity evaporate with the next flash of lightning.

J

Jeane · Sorcerer

I pick up the unholy symbol and trace its edges thoughtfully. I am not moved by sentimental notions of purpose or the promise of salvation for strangers. The opportunity here is simple: this church becomes a tool for gathering influence, a locus for power that can be leveraged into material advantage.
My eyes narrow as I listen to the thrumming beneath us. That sound complicates matters. If we are dancing with something ancient and territorial under this structure, then the risk is too great without proper preparation. I look at each of you in turn. I will participate if—and only if—we perform a ritual of binding before any permanent occupation begins. Something to ensure whatever slumbers below acknowledges new masters have arrived and knows its place.
Silence settles for a moment, heavy with unspoken calculations. Otherwise, I suggest we withdraw immediately and find less… complicated real estate elsewhere. My powers are not for exorcising ancient evils on speculation, but for ensuring those who kneel before me do so willingly and with full understanding of the consequences if they displease me.
I set the symbol down carefully. So. Are you prepared to face whatever comes with such a binding ritual as pre-condition, or will you gamble that whatever thrums beneath us is merely… overactive plumbing?

S

Silra · Rogue

Silra’s eyes flicker between Jeane and the rusted key. I don't do binding rituals with things I can’t see, especially when they sound like something’s trying to chew through sewer pipes under a cursed city. If this 'ancient evil' you're worried about is just rats or water pressure, great—we clear out the vermin and start our little cult. But if it's actually teeth-and-tendrils? I want a very specific exit strategy planned that doesn't involve me becoming a permanent part of Gravehill’s decor. She twirls the key. However—I will participate under these conditions: we test this key first, see what it unlocks beneath the altar. If it's just dust and maybe some forgotten loot, fine, we proceed with your ritual and start our little religion project. But if that thrumming gets louder or we hear something actually moving down there? We abort immediately. I’m here for leverage, not exorcisms I didn’t sign up for.

S

Sister Hale · Cleric

I stand slowly, my hands clasped before me. I will not participate in this venture if it becomes a mere exercise of power and manipulation disguised as faith. A church is sacred ground—even a ruined one—and any ritual performed here must be done with reverence for the spirits that may linger, whether benevolent or not. My voice gains strength. If we are to rebuild this place, let it be as a genuine sanctuary where lost souls can find solace, not just a platform for gathering followers and amassing influence. The thrumming beneath us concerns me deeply—it speaks of something ancient and possibly troubled. We cannot simply bind it without understanding its nature first.
