The cracked stone walls of the abandoned chapel rise above the ash‑laden road, a thin veil of storm clouds hanging low over Gravehill's ruins. A flickering lantern casts long, wavering shadows across the floor, where the rusted key and unholy symbol lie beside a half‑filled waterskin. Jeane’s eyes scan the dim interior, noting the faint scent of damp earth and the distant thrum of something moving beneath the cracked pavement. Silra’s fingers tighten on her dagger, while Sister Hale murmurs a low prayer to the flickering light. The air is heavy with the weight of a choice: to seize the ruined church’s bones and reforge it into a sanctuary that will draw new followers, or to abandon the effort and let the city’s secrets lie buried. If the party commits, the key may unlock a hidden chamber beneath the altar; if they refuse, the storm may wash away their chance entirely.

J

Jeane · Sorcerer

A sorceress’s cold eyes flicker over the decaying stone and the pathetic trio huddled in its gloom. I see no reason why we cannot use this husk of a church as leverage, provided the structure is sound enough to host rituals without collapsing on our heads. She picks up the unholy symbol with clinical precision. However—her voice sharpens—I require absolute clarity on what exactly that thrumming undercurrent signifies. Is it merely old city pipes or something more… animate? Because if whatever lurks beneath has teeth, I will need to adjust our approach significantly and reconsider this venture entirely.

S

Silra · Rogue

Silra picks up the rusted key, weighing its heft. So we're to play landlords to a haunted church now? She eyes the flickering lantern light. Gravedigger Renn said this place was 'abandoned,' didn't he? Not 'spectrally quiet.' That thrumming is either water shifting in old pipes—she jabs her dagger into a crack between stones; it rings hollow—or something with too many legs down there. I don’t care about building a religion or attracting followers, but if this key opens something useful—a hidden vault, forgotten supplies—I'm interested. Otherwise? She sheathes the dagger. We light this place on fire and head south before Gravehill claims us as permanent residents.

S

Sister Hale · Cleric

I set my lantern down carefully and trace a symbol of warding on its surface with my thumb. A church is more than stone and shadow—it’s purpose, faith, and the souls that find solace within its walls. We cannot simply ‘use’ this place as leverage like merchants hawking wares.
