Round 9

Phase: escalating

As the storm raged on outside, its fury seeming to intensify with each passing moment, Jeane's gaze locked onto the dark corridor beyond the church door. Her crimson eyes gleamed with a mix of determination and trepidation as she stepped forward, her long white hair whipping about her face in the wind. The air was thick with wrongness – not just dust but something ancient, hungry, and malevolent. Silra moved deeper into the church, her rogue's eyes scanning every shadow while her fingers itched for a blade she hadn't yet drawn.
The tension between Jeane and the City Guard remained palpable, their suspicion now bordering on hostility. The guard's hand rested on the hilt of his sword, his eyes darting nervously towards Sister Hale, who stood beside him. "Your concern for our welfare is touching," Jeane said, her voice dripping with sarcasm as she let her unholy symbol pulse with dark energy that made the air around them shimmer like heat off a forge.
Sister Hale's voice cut through the tension, calm but strained. "I'm afraid we can't just leave... yet." The guard shifted uncomfortably, his eyes flicking towards Silra, who was now standing at the edge of the corridor, her hand wrapped tightly around the rope. It jerked again, harder this time, as whatever she had snagged earlier began to move. Slowly, she pulled back, her hand over hand, feeling resistance increase as it dragged across the floor above. When she surfaced, Hale and the guard stood too close for comfort – he was armed but not yet hostile, which meant they were in that weird limbo where everyone's tension hung precariously in the balance.
As Silra watched, the guard took a step forward, his hand on the hilt of his sword. "We need to talk," he said, his voice low and even. Jeane's eyes narrowed, her gaze flicking towards the guard before returning to the corridor. The air was heavy with anticipation, the storm raging outside like a wild animal waiting for its next victim.
